Andy Serkis has revealed that The Hobbit will begin shooting at the end of the year.
The actor was on the red carpet at the Empire Awards in London last night and revealed to Digital Spy that he was also expecting new director Guillermo Del Toro to bring his own vision to the movie.
"Guillermo's got a particular take on how he envisions it, that's why he's there. Peter, as producer, and the writing team want a fresh pair of eyes on the story."
Guillermo Del Toro will take over directing duties from Peter Jackson, who will serve as executive producer he has also penned the script.
However the actor didn't know if the film was going to follow in the footsteps of Alice In Wonderland and Avatar and be in 3D.
"I don't know what's going on with that debate... I love [3D], people are really beginning to understand how to use it dramatically now."
Casting got underway earlier this month for the movie and who has landed the role as Bilbo Baggins is yet to be announced.
The actor was last seen on the big screen in Sex & Drugs& Rock & Roll, in which he played Ian Dury, for which he picked up a Best Actor Bafta nomination.
Apart from The Hobbit the actor also has The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn on the Horizon.
The movie has been directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Jamie Bell, Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Tony Curran.
