Andy Serkis says it was weird returning to the role of Gollum.
The British actor is set to reprise the role of Gollum as Peter Jackson returns to Middle Earth with his adaptation of The Hobbit.
And while Gollum remains Serkis' most famous character he admits that he struggled re-connecting with the character.
Speaking to Total Film the actor said: "It was very strange hearing his voice again and finding my way back into the character.
"At first I felt like I was doing a weird sort of impersonation of someone I once played. It took me a couple of days to really dig deep, really connect with him beyond a superficial level. I’ve never been through that before."
As well as playing Gollum in the movie Serkis is also served as second unit director on the project.
And he is not the only familiar face reprising a role as Ian McKellan, Ian Holm, Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving will all be returning.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released 14th December.
