Andy Serkis has described working as second unit director on The Hobbit as 'fascinating'.
As well as working behind the camera Serkis will also be back in front of it as he reprises the role of Gollum in the Peter Jackson movie.
Filming is currently underway in New Zealand and Serkis seems to be having a great time.
Speaking to IGN the actor said: "It's quite fascinating. I'm having a ball. It's a huge operation, really. We're on the road at the moment, at various different locations on South Island in New Zealand.
"There are some truly remarkable landscapes that we're filming in. It's just stunning."
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey won't hit the big screen until next Christmas but Serkis has hinted that a trailer may not be too far away.
"There will be a trailer fairly soon, actually. Around Christmas time, I believe."
It has been a year of motion capture work for Serkis having also starred in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released on December 14, 2012
