Andrew Garfield has signed on to reprise the role of Peter Parker in a Spider Man sequel.
The British actor took on the superhero role earlier this summer as he took over the part from Tobey Maguire.
The franchise was given a reboot by director Marc Webb and he is also on board the second movie.
Emma Stone played Gwen Stacey in this summer's blockbuster film and she is believed to be in talks to reprise the role.
Columbia president Doug Belgrad said: "We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline, and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker."
The Amazing Spider Man grossed in excess of $751 million at the global box office making it one of the most successful movies of 2012 so far.
And production on the next instalment could start as early as next year with the film expected to hit the big screen in 2014.
