Andrew Garfield admits that he feels pressure after taking on the role of Spider Man because it means so much to so many people.

The actor takes over the role of Peter Parker from Tobey Maguire as the franchise gents a re-boot next summer with director Marc Webb.

Speaking to MTV News the actor said: "I feel a great deal of weight. I can't speak for [my co-stars] but I feel like we all know how important it is to so many people.

"It's equally as important to us, so I think it's impossible to not feel a certain amount of weight.

"But to kind of juxtapose that, I think we all feel incredibly excited because we worked really hard to make [director] Marc Webb's vision and Stan Lee's original vision, and the essence of that character come to life again for an audience in a different way."

We haven't seen Garfield on the big screen since Never Let Me Go at the beginning of the year but he has Back Roads in the pipeline.

The Amazing Spider Man is set for a 3rd July 2012 release.
