Epic 3D fantasy adventure ‘Alice in Wonderland’ broke a new record for director Tim Burton over the Easter weekend as ‘Alice’ surpassed his former box office hit ‘Charlie and The Chocolate Factory’ (£37,802185), with a cumulative of £38,423,738 making ‘Alice In Wonderland’ his biggest UK box office success ever.

Alice In Wonderland’ also became the 5th biggest UK release in the UK for The Walt Disney Company surpassing Disney/Pixar hit ‘Monsters Inc’ which grossed £37,907,451 final box office and with many schools on holiday for another two weeks ‘Alice’ is likely to remain a firm favourite at the box office for some time yet.

The Burton/Depp collaboration has now generated a phenomenal $732.1M in global performance becoming only the 38th title ever to cross the $700M worldwide mark and now stands as the 35th most popular release in the history of the motion picture business.

Johnny Depp stars as the Mad Hatter, and Mia Wasikowska as 19-year-old Alice, who returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends:  the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dormouse, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and of course, the Mad Hatter. 

Alice embarks on a fantastical journey to find her true destiny and end the Red Queen’s reign of terror.  The all-star cast also includes Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, Helena Bonham Carter  as the Red Queen, Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts, and Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

Providing the voices for Wonderland’s menagerie of inhabitants is an eclectic and impressive mix of British acting talent, including Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit, Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat, Alan Rickman as Absolem the caterpillar, Timothy Spall as Bayard, Barbara Windsor as the Dormouse, Christopher Lee as the Jabberwocky, Michael Gough as the Dodo, and Paul Whitehouse as the March Hare.

Alice In Wonderland is currently on general release in all major cinemas across the country.
