Alice In Wonderland

Alice In Wonderland

Alice In Wonderland will be released in Holland after bosses of a cinema chain backtracked over plans to boycott the movie and have reached a deal with corporate executives over its early DVD release.

The Tim Burton production, which stars Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway, has been at the centre of controversy in Europe after Disney revealed plans to release the movie on DVD just three months after it opens in theatres.

Owners of Holland's four main cinema houses - Minerva, Pathe, Wolff and Jogchems - agreed to protest the move and decided not to screen the fantasy film at all, amid fears they would lose out on big box office bucks because fans will opt to wait for the DVD.

But Pathe bosses have broken away from the proposed ban after negotiating with Disney executives and will show the film upon its release next week (10Mar10).

A Pathe spokesman says, "We have a new agreement with Disney", although the details have not been made public.

The Dutch protest mirrors a similar outcry in the U.K.; Odeon cinema heads changed their minds about boycotting Alice in Wonderland last week (ends26Feb10) after securing a "lasting agreement" with Disney.
