Alec Baldwin Plans To Take 2008 Off....

Alec Baldwin is taking a break from Hollywood in 2008, after a busy and controversy-filled 2007 left him tired out.Baldwin's 2007 was dominated by a well-documented battle with Ireland, his 12-year-old daughter with ex-wife Kim Basinger.The actor left an angry voicemail message on Ireland's cellphone, calling her a "thoughtless little pig" after she missed a scheduled chat with him. The message made its way onto the internet and dominated newspaper headlines for weeks.And Baldwin admits the episode, coupled with a stressful year, has completely drained him of his energy.He tells Gotham magazine, "I'm going to walk through the park, go to the movies, and rest."It's been a tough 2007. With the strike and all that crap with my daughter, it's taken a lot out of me. Now it's time to do things that make me feel good.I want to have a pleasant, simple, easy, and enjoyable year".Meanwhile the Oscar nominee fears he is washed up in Hollywood at 49 - because there are too many actors competing for too few roles.

The Departed star has turned his back on starring roles in the movie business to concentrate on TV comedy show 30 Rock, because he worries he's getting too old for the big screen.

Baldwin says, "The industry now is largely about young people. If you look at the number of films that star people over 40, there seem to be a lot less of them now.

"So the issue is competing to get good roles. Dustin Hoffman said something great to me once: 'We're all in line. Some of us are just in a shorter line.'".
