Adam McKay believes that the fans outcry over an Anchorman sequel being shelved could help the movie to be made.
Anchorman was released back in 2004 and still remains one of Ferrell's most popular hits, as well as launching the careers of Steve Carell and Paul Rudd.
Earlier this year there were plans for a sequel, which had the backing of the cast, but plans were scrapped after issues over a bigger budget for the project.
But director McKay has been overwhelmed with the public outcry after it was announced that the movie will not be going ahead and he reveals that Paramount has been listening.
Speaking to Collider the filmmaker said: "Paramount heard it. Adam Goodman, the president of Paramount, was on the first one so he loves it and when that outcry came, he was kind of excited because he knew it could maybe push it towards happening," McKay explained.
The filmmaker stressed that the chances of the sequel being revived soon are still slim, adding: "I’m clearly going into it like another movie so if it does happen it’s still two years away or a ways away.
"And I haven’t talked to anyone. There’s nothing happening right now but [the fan response] helped, it helped."
McKay reunited with Ferrell for their latest comedy The Other Guys, which is released in the UK, later this month, the movie also stars Mark Wahlberg, Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson.
