The cast of Black Panther to be 90% African or African American according to Kevin Feige.
Casting is well underway for Black Panther, which will see Chadwick Boseman reprise the title role for this character's first solo film.
We were introduced to Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War and now Boseman will team up with director Ryan Coogler for this new stand alone film. This will be the first Marvel film of Coogler's directing career.
Boseman has been on the cast list for some time but last week it was announced the Michael B. Jordan and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o were also on board.
Feige talked about the film's casting during an episode of The Empire Film Podcast, saying: "That will be amongst the best ensembles we've ever had and 90% of the cast is either African or African-American."
It has not yet been revealed who Jordan and Nyong'o will play in the new film. Andy Serkis is also set to reprise the role of
Ulysses Klaue, who we first saw in Avengers: Age of Ultron last year.
Black Panther will be the third feature film of Coogler's career and come after the success of Fruitvale Station and, more recently, Creed. He is one of the most exciting directors around and I can't wait to see him at the helm of this film.
Black Panther will come after the release of Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 and it is not clear whether we will see the character of Black Panther make an appearance in this Avengers film. I guess we will have to wait until the cast list is announced.
However, before Avengers: Infinity War hits the big screen, we are going to see Doctor Stranger, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Spiderman: Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok all released.
Black Panther is set for a 2018 release.
