Matthew McConaughey has gone from actor best known for getting his shirt off in movies, to one of the most in demand actors in Hollywood.
Over the last couple of years he has really showed us what a talented actor he is with varied and exciting roles.
We take a look at how McConaughey made his name, and how he got his career back on track.
Step 1: He first burst onto the scene in a small but memorable role in cult comedy Dazed and Confused in 1993 where his A-list looks were well hidden in salmon pink jeans, dodgy combover and creepy moustache
Step 2: Matthew’s first leading man role was in A Time To Kill (1996) as idealistic young lawyer Jake Brigance opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Sandra Bullock.
The next year, he played another idealistic lawyer, defending the slaves of Amistad, in Steven Spielberg’s historical drama.
Step 3: His career started on the road of romantic comedies when he appeared in EdTV and then popped up in an episode of Sex and the City playing a bizarre version of his real-life self
Step 4: Post- Sex and the City his career took a bit of a dive. First he starred alongside Jennifer Lopez in the forgettable The Wedding Planner which started a run of so-so romantic comedies (the exception being the brilliant How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days) but others - Failure to Launch, Fool’s Gold and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past - were pretty terrible.
Step 5: In 2011 he returned to more serious stuff and appeared in The Lincoln Lawyer and the sinister Killer Joe where he played against type as a perverted hitman
Step 6: In the hilarious and sexy Magic Mike he worked with one of the world’s best directors Steven Soderbergh, opposite Channing Tatum as a greedy Florida stripper.
Staying in Florida, he appears with Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron in the steamy thriller The Paperboy, out now on Blu-ray and DVD
Step 7: With His career firmly back on track and reputation restored as both brilliant actor and Grade A eye candy he’ll next be seen in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street alongside Leo DiCaprio and as the lead in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar
