The career of Matthew McConaughey is almost unrecognisable as he has the king of romantic comedies to taking on more hard hitting roles that really do show off his action skills.
McConaughey kicked off his career in 1991 with work in commercials before moving into TV and film.
Dazed and Confused, Angels in the Outfield and Submission were some of the early films for the actor but it was to be A Time to Kill that was to be his breakthrough.
He took on the role of lawyer Jake Brigance in the adaptation of the John Grisham novel directed by Joel Schumacher.
The movie was a critical and commercial success and showed that McConaughey was a great leading man - he would go on to star in the likes of Amistad and The Newton Boys in the coming years.
But throughout the noughties McConaughey really became known for his romantic comedies with roles in the likes of The Wedding Planner, How to Lost a Guy in 10 Days and Failure to Launch.
While some of the movies did enjoy success they did not show off McConaughey's talent and his career did feel like it was beginning to stall.
But he has turned it all around and now he is landing more exciting and challenging roles and he is becoming a major Hollywood heavyweight.
The Lincoln Lawyer really kicked off this new era in his career as he teamed up with director Brad Furman.
The movie was an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Michael Connelly and saw McConaughey take on the role of a defence lawyer who operates from the back of his Lincoln Town Car.
The Lincoln Lawyer was a critical hit and McConaughey's central performance really did grab everyone's attention.
Killer Joe was next and this is the best role of his career to date as he has never taken on a part like this.
It was another book adaptation as this time Tracy Letts' novel was give the big screen treatment while William Friedkin was in the director's chair.
Killer Joe was a a dark and violent movie that saw mcConaughey really excel and show a very different side to him as an actor.
He has followed this up with Magic Mike and The Paperboy, where he has given two more terrific performances.
McConaughey is back on the big screen this week with new movie Mud, a film that sees him team up with director Jeff Nichols.
McConaughey plays a fugitive in the movie who enlists the help of two teenage boys to evade capture from the bounty hunters on his trail and to reunite him with his true love.
And these exciting new roles are set to continue with The Dallas Buyer's Club and The Wolf of Wall Street on the horizon.
The Dallas Buyer's Club saw the actor lose a whopping thirty eight pounds to play HIV sufferer Ron Woodroof. The movie is based on the true life take of Woodroof and is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée.
He has also completed work on The Wolf of Wall Street and that will see him team up with Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Matthew McConaughey has shown that he is an actor with some major talent over the last couple of years and I am excited to see where he takes his career next.
