The Most Iconic Female Movie Stars of All Time

 

To commemorate the 51st anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s untimely death we have decided to look back at our all-time favorite classic female stars. Fans of Marilyn are planning to continue the level of celebration and remembrance witnessed last year on the 50th anniversary with a number of events worldwide. The Hollywood Museum is also featuring the Marilyn Monroe exhibition from June 1 to September 8 celebrating Monroe’s Life and Legacy.

 

5. Elizabeth Taylor

BBC Four’s recent drama based on the lives of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton reminded us why she remains a fabulous star. Amidst scandal in her personal life, Elizabeth Taylor rose to fame at the age of 12 in Courageous Moves (1944). She is best known for her stunning beauty and her nickname – One-Shot Liz.

4. Bette Davis

Dubbed the First Lady of the Silver Screen, this Oscar-winning actress had a career that spanned six decades. After rising to fame in The Man Who Played God (1933), Davis became one of the highest paid women of her era and is best known for her 1950 film All About Eve.

3. Ginger Rogers

A dancing legend, Ginger Rogers was the star of both Broadway and the big screen. Rogers made a fantastic duo with Fred Astaire in many films including Swing Time (1936) and Flying Down to Rio (1933).

A worldwide sex symbol, Marilyn Monroe rose to fame after starring alongside Bette Davis in All About Eve (1950) before rising to further popularity in Niagara (1953). Despite her own acting insecurities, we think she is an immortal global star.
