Starring: Pierce Brosnan, Trine Dyrholm, Molly Blixt Egelind
Director: Susanne Bier
Rating: 4/5
If you are looking for a bit of romance and family drama on the big screen this week then look no further that Love Is All You Need - a movie that sees Susanne Bier return to the director's chair.
Set at a picture-perfect summer wedding in Sorrento, the film stars Pierce Brosnan as Philip, a lonely, middle-aged English widower and estranged single father living in Denmark, and Trine Dyrholm as Ida, a Danish hairdresser recuperating from chemotherapy, who has just learned that her husband is leaving her for a woman half his age from his accounts department.
The fates of these two bruised souls intertwine as they embark for Italy to attend the wedding of his son, Patrick, to her daughter, Astrid.
The bumpy path towards the union of their children, and the clashes and faux pas of their wedding guests, force Philip and Ida to reevaluate all their notions of family, love and happiness.
From start to finish this is a charming movie about finding love long after you thought you could.
So many movies are dealing with older relationships and it is wonderful to see as Pierce Brosnan and Trine Dyrholm deliver terrific performances.
Dyrholm is a woman who is battling with cancer whilst trying to come to terms with the fact that her husband cheated on her.
While Brosnan plays a work obsessed man who is letting his life pass him by as he continues to struggle to get over his wife's death many years ago.
But in each other they find a comfort and a companionship that brings the pair of them back to life as they realise that they could get more out of their lives and love hadn't passed them by.
This is a movie that delivers genuine laughs as well as great smacks of emotion, not to mention it is the first time in a long time that I have seen a rom-com where you truly believe the chemistry between the two lead characters.
There are also some great support performances particularly from Molly Blixt Egelind and Sebastian Jessen as the soon to be married Astrid and Patrick.
This movie sees the pair go on a journey as they try to find out what they want from their lives... do they want to get married, or not?
Susanne Bier must also be applauded for making such a beautiful movie as she has used the scenery in a truly stunning way and it does give the film that extra little punch.
Yes the movie is a little predictable and you really do know how it is all going to end but it is an enjoyable ride not the less.
This is a heartwarming and charming movie as you will get behind these two main characters and will them to fall in love.
