Kill The Messenger looks set to be one of the movies not to miss this autumn, and the first trailer has been unveiled.
We have already been treated to the first poster this week, and now Focus Feature has dropped a very compelling trailer:
Jeremy Renner is one of my favourite actors, and he will take on the central role of journalist Gary Webb: this movie is based on a true story.
Renner already has two Oscar nominations - one for The Hurt Locker & the other for The Town - and Kill The Messenger is being tipped to bag him a third.
Kill The Messenger sees Michael Cuesta back in the director's chair, while Peter Landesman has penned the screenplay.
The movie brings together an all-star cast, as Michael Sheen, Andy Garcia, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Paz Vega, Robert Patrick, and Barry Pepper are all on board.
The movie follows Webb as he stumbles onto a story, which leads to the shady origins of the men who started the crack epidemic on the nation’s streets... and further alleges that the CIA was aware of major dealers who were smuggling cocaine into the U.S., and using the profits to arm rebels fighting in Nicaragua.
Despite warnings from drug kingpins and CIA operatives to stop his investigation, Webb keeps digging to uncover a conspiracy with explosive implications.
His journey takes him from the prisons of California to the villages of Nicaragua to the highest corridors of power in Washington, D.C. - and draws the kind of attention that threatens not just his career, but also his family and his life.
Political thrillers are one of the most exciting film genres, and Kill The Messenger promises to be the standout film in this genre in 2014.
Kill The Messenger is released 28th November.
