James McAvoy in Welcome To The Punch

James McAvoy is one of the most exciting British acting talents but we have not seen him on the big screen since he lead the cast in X-Men: First Class back in the summer of 2011.

But this week sees the actor return as he teams up with fellow Brit Mark Strong to star in crime/drama Welcome To The Punch.

And while there may have been a severe lack of McAvoy projects on the big screen of late all that is about to change over the next twelve months.

Welcome To The Punch sees McAvoy team up with director Eran Creevy for what is the second directorial outing for the filmmaker.

Ex-criminal Jacob Sternwood is forced to return to London when his son is involved in a heist gone wrong.

This gives his nemesis, detective Max Lewinsky, one last chance to catch the man he's always been after.

Welcome To The Punch is a fast paced action movie that is not to be missed this week.

We won't have long to wait until we see McAvoy on the big screen again as he is back at the end of the month with Trance.

The movie sees him work with director Danny Boyle for the first time as the director returns to the helm of a movie for the first time since 127 Hours.

Trance is a psychological crime/drama that sees McAvoy take on the role of and art auctioneer who has become mixed up with a group of criminals partners with a hypnotherapist in order to recover a lost painting.

McAvoy leads an exciting cast as Rosario Dawson and the fantastic Vincent Cassel are all on board while. Joe Ahearne and John Hodge have teamed up to pen the script.

There may be a couple of weeks to go until the release of Trance but the early reviews have been very promising.

McAvoy will round off the year with The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers - which follows the relationship of a New York couple told from two different perspectives.

Ned Benson is in the director's chair and has penned the script for this rather interesting project while Jessica Chastain and Viola Davis are also on the cast list.

But it is not all about promoting movies of McAvoy this year as he is also due to start filming X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The movie will see him reprise the role of Charles Xavier - a role he first place back in X-Men: First Class - alongside Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence.

James McAvoy is a terrific actor and has been in some great projects over the years and it looks like 2013 is set to be another successful year.

Welcome To The Punch is released 15th March.
