The release of Iron Man 3 is now less that four weeks away and it is one of the movies of 2013 that we are so looking forward to here at FemaleFirst.
Since the Super Bowl we have been treated to a wide range of trailers and images that have done nothing but increase the excitement around this movie.
So we take a look at what we have learnt about this movie so far.
- There will be multiple villains
The villain count is really being notched up third time around as we see a trio of bad guys lining up to take a swipe and Tony Stark.
The past two films have seen Obadiah Stane and Ivan Vanko have been the sole baddies but this time around Marvel is upping the stakes.
Oscar winner Ben Kingsley is one of the exciting new additions to the cast list as he takes on the role of The Mandarin - if you haven’t see a pic of him yet you really should check one out as he looks fantastic.
We are seeing a little bit of reworking with this character as in the comics The Mandarin is Chinese but the nationality of this character does seem to be taking a little bit of a back seat.
But who will play the central villain in the movie is not yet clear and there has been some suggestion that it would be Aldrick Killian - a character that is well known to any comic book readers.
Guy Pearce will play the character of Killian - a scientist who develops the Extremis virus with Maya Hansen - another newbie in the form of Rebecca Hall.
Finally we also have James Badge Dale who will take on the role of Eric Savin - Coldblood. However we haven’t seen too much of this character in images or footage and so just how big a role this character will have is unknown.
- Extremis story arc
Seeing as Aldrick Killian and Maya Hansen are the creators of the Extremis virus it will come as no surprise to hear that Iron Man 3 is based on the Extremis story arc.
Extremis was a six issue story arc that was written by Warren Ellis and illustrated by Adi Granov and is widely regarded as one of the best Iron Man stories.
We have already seen upgrades to Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit in the latest trailer and the movie is going to see Stark about to remotely control his suit - it is going to be great to see the development in this area.
- We will see more of Pepper Potts and James Rhodes
Robert Downey Jr has already hinted that we will be seeing more of James Rhodes in this film as Don Cheadle returns to this role.
We saw Rhodes in a suit last time around and this time we are going to be seeing him in his Iron Patriot suit this time around.
Downey Jr went on to say that we would also see more development and depth with this character third time around.
Iron Man 3 is also going to see more of Pepper Potts - played by Gwyneth Paltrow once again. In Iron Man 2 we saw the strength in this character as she took over as CEO of Stark Industries as she showed that she was more than just a damsel in distress.
This time around there is set to be a love triangle between Pepper, Stark and his Iron Man suits and this just may well put pressure on their relationship.
Both Pepper Potts and James Rhodes have both been given their own character posters this time around - a good indication as to how important they are going to be to the story.
- Iron Man 3 will be more personal
Third time around we are going to see more of the human side of Tony Stark rather than his alter ego according to co-writer Drew Pearce.
The beginning of the movie will see Stark struggling to come to terms with the events in New York at the end of Avengers Assemble as he begins to struggle with his Iron Man identity.
This movie is going to start stripping things away as this character tries to find out who he is outside of the suit.
Iron Man 3 is going to be the most personal journey and challenge that Tony Stark has faced as he tries to truly find himself.
- No Avengers additions.
It is inevitable that going forward we are going to see Avengers characters popping up in each other’s movies… except for Iron Man 3.
Kevin Feige revealed that very early on in the production of Iron Man 3 the decision was taken to not feature any other Avengers/S.H.I.E.L.D characters and to focus solely on Tony Stark.
Iron Man 3 is one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2013 and it has the potential to be one of the most successful films of the year.
Marvel really does seem to be on a roll at the moment as they have produced a string of terrific films - culminating last summer in Avengers Assemble.
Iron Man 3 kicks off Phase 2 of Marvel movies that will see Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Solider and Avengers 2 hit the big screen.
Iron Man 3 is released 26th April
