No summer is complete without a Pixar movie to enjoy and 2015 is no different as Inside Out is one of the films that I have been looking forward to all year.
Inside Out is the first Pixar movie to hit the big screen since Monsters University back in the summer of 2013 and sees Pete Docter back in the director's chair.
This is the third Pixar feature film for Docter - who has already been at the helm of Monsters Inc. and Up in recent years - and it is exciting to see him back at the helm of what could well be Pixar's most adventurous movie yet.
Inside Out premiered at Cannes earlier this month and was the first animation to ever open the prestigious festival. It really is one of the summer movies that I cannot wait to see and could well be the best animation film of 2015.
This is a movie that delves into the feelings of a young girl as we find ourselves on an exciting ride with Joy, Disgust, Far, Sadness, and Anger as they try to lead Riley through her life.
This is certainly an interesting premise from writers Docter, Meg LeFauve, and Josh Cooley and I am really excited to see what they deliver.
As we have come to expect with Pixar movies over the years, a terrific voice cast has been assembled for the film as Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black are on board as Joy, Disgust, Far, Sadness, and Anger. While Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan are also on board.
Based in Headquarters, the control centre inside 11-year-old Riley's mind, five Emotions are hard at work, led by light-hearted optimist Joy (Poehler), whose mission is to make sure Riley stays happy. Fear (Hader) heads up safety, Anger (Black) ensures all is fair and Disgust (Kaling) prevents Riley from getting poisoned - both physically and socially. Sadness (Smith) isn't exactly sure what her role is, and frankly, neither is anyone else.
When Riley's family relocates to a scary new city, the Emotions are on the job, eager to help guide her through the difficult transition. But when Joy and Sadness are inadvertently swept into the far reaches of Riley's mind - taking some of her core memories with them - Fear, Anger and Disgust are left reluctantly in charge.
Joy and Sadness must venture through unfamiliar places - Long Term Memory, Imagination Land, Abstract Thought and Dream Productions - in a desperate effort to get back to Headquarters, and Riley.
Over the years, Pixar have been behind some terrific movies, iconic characters, and unforgettable moments and Inside Out looks set to continue that fine tradition.
Inside Out was met well at Cannes Film Festival last week and it looks like Pixar has another huge animation hit on its hands - really cannot wait to see it!!!
Inside Out is released 24th July.
