Steven Soderbergh is back in the director's chair for Haywire, a fast paced action movie.
So to celebrate the release of the first big action flick of 2012 we take a look at the other movies in this genre to watch out for this year.
Skyfall
There is no action movie quite long the latest James Bond project and Daniel Craig is back.
Skyfall is the twenty third Bond movie to grace the big screen and it's the third outing as 007 for Craig.
Oscar winner Sam Mendes is in the director's chair this time around and shooting on the movie is currently underway.
As we have come to expect from Bond movie it's an all star cast as Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris are all involved while Judi Dench reprises the role of M.
Skyfall is released 26th October.
Total Recall
Total Recall first hit the big screen back in 1990 and this summer, over twenty years later, Len Wiseman has remade the film.
He brings together an all star cast that includes Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston, Jessica Biel, Bill Nighy and Ethan Hawke.
As the nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai vie for supremacy, a factory worker (Farrell) begins to suspect that he's a spy, though he is unaware which side of the fight he's on.
The movie promises to be one of the best in this genre this year - Wiseman is known for putting a great action movie together.
Total Recall is released 22nd August.
Safe House
I love a bit of Denzel Washington and he is back on the big screen as he teams up with Ryan Reynolds.
Washington plays the most dangerous renegade from the CIA, who comes back onto the grid after a decade on the run.
When the South African safe house he's remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative (Reynolds) escapes with him. Now, the unlikely allies must stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead.
It's always great to see Washington not play the hero and this looks set to be an exciting ride.
Safe House is released 24th February.
Bullet To The Head
We haven't seen Sylvester Stallone on the big screen for a while but this year he is back with his new movie Bullet To The Head.
Walter Hill is in the director's chair for this project and he has also penned the script for the movie.
Jason Momoa also flexes his action muscles again after Conan last year while Christian Slater is also on the cast list.
An unlikely alliance between a cop and a hitman takes place after each watches his partner die.
The new partners seek revenge and discover they have a shared enemy and much in common despite being on opposite sides of the law.
Bullet To The Head is released 13th April.
The Expendables 2
We may not have seen Stallone for a while but we have two of his to enjoy this year as he is back with The Expendables 2.
The movie comes two years after the first but this time around Stallone is not in the director's chair, Simon West is a director this time around.
After Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him.
They’re not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement.
It was a big fan of the first movie because it did everything that you expected the movie to do... kick a whole load of ass.
The Expendables 2 is released 17th August.
