Harry Treadaway returns to the big screen this week with new horror film Honeymoon, and he continues to have a very successful 2014.
Treadaway has already enjoyed an acting career that has spanned nearly a decade, but it is in the last couple of years that he has been making a name of himself with both his film and television work.
He made his film debut back in 2005, when he teamed up with his twin brother Luke to play Brothers of the Head. The movie saw Harry and Luke played conjoined twins in an adaptation of the novel by Brian Aldiss.
After Brothers of the Head, Harry had a string of television roles as he appeared in the likes of Marple: Sleeping Murder, Afterlife, and Recovery.
He returned to the big screen in 2007 in the critically acclaimed Control. Directed by Anton Corbijn, Control focused on the life of Ian Curtis, the front man of Joy Division. The film charted the band’s rise and Curtis’ struggle with epilepsy.
Treadaway took on the role of the band’s drummer Stephen Morris, while Sam Riley, Samantha Morten, Joe Anderson, Toby Kebbell and James Anthony Pearson were all also on board.
Control marked the directorial debut of Corbijn, and was based on the biography Touching from a Distance by Curtis’ widow Deborah.
The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and went on to enjoy critical and awards success. It won five British Independent Film Awards as well as being named Best Film at the 2007 Evening Standard British Film Awards.
He followed Control up with roles in the likes of Love You More, The Disappeared, City of Ember and Fish Tank over the next few years. Treadaway also made his stage debut in 2009, as he worked with his brother once again for Over There, which was a new play by Mark Ravenhill.
In 2013, he made the leap into the big budget blockbuster as he landed a role in The Lone Ranger, which was directed by Gore Verbinski and starred Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer.
The Lone Ranger was a movie that was not met that well by the critics, but it went on to gross over $260 million at the global box office - however, it was not the box office success that Disney were hoping it would be.
Treadaway is back this week with Honeymoon, which sees the actor tackle the horror genre as he teams up with actress Rose Leslie and director Leigh Janiak: who is making her feature film directorial debut with the movie.
Treadaway and Leslie play a newlywed couple Paul and Bea who head out to a secluded cabin for their honeymoon. However, wedding bliss doesn’t last long after Paul finds Bea naked and disorientated in the woods. From this moment, Bea’s behaviour becomes more and more distant and strange.
Honeymoon marks the first time that Treadaway and Leslie have worked together, as she is trying to make a name for herself on film, as she moves away from the success of Game of Thrones.
Treadaway has also enjoyed television success this year, as he took on the role of Victor Frankenstein in hit series Penny Dreadful.
The series if created and written by John Logan and brings together some of horror literature’s greatest characters, from Frankenstein, Dorian Grey, Van Helsing and Dracula, with some brand new characters.
Penny Dreadful has been one of the most anticipated shows of 2014, and Treadaway joined as all-star cast, including Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Josh Hartnett, Rory Kinnear, and Billy Piper.
This summer Showtime renewed Penny Dreadful for a second series and work is underway on the new series, which will air in 2015.
Treadaway is moving between film and television projects, and enjoying success in both mediums. He is an actor to watch out for over the next couple of years, and his star really is on the up.
Honeymoon is released 26th September.
