If you are looking for a monster of a movie this summer, then look no further than Godzilla, as the iconic creature makes a long awaited return to the big screen.
Yes, Godzilla is back. This is the first time American film since the late nineties and Godzilla will be wreaking havoc on an unsuspecting city and the people who live there once more.
I don’t know about you, but the more I see of Godzilla the more I am looking forward to it… there really is an incredibly epic feel to the film this time around.
Gareth Edwards grabbed everyone’s attention in fine style back in 2010 with his feature film directorial debut Monsters: it really was one of the best directorial debuts in recent years.
Now Edwards is back in the director’s chair for the first time since Monsters - needless to say, Godzilla is the biggest directorial challenge of his career so far.
However, if you have seen Monsters you will just what he achieved from a visual standpoint with such a small budget.
I can’t wait to see how this bigger budget movie looks: fingers crossed he has used the same ethos that he used on Monsters. The early trailers for the movie really do promise a lot when it comes to special effects and how the movie is going to look.
Of course, not movie is complete without a cast, and Edwards has brought together an impressive cast of names to star.
Bryan Cranston will lead that cast, and is joined by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, Ken Watanabe, and David Strathairn: a real mix of established talent, Oscar winners and nominees, and up and coming young stars.
It is going to be interesting to see Olsen and Taylor-Johnson on the screen together for the first time, as they are set to play siblings Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron. We may get a first glimpse of the chemistry that the pair have ahead of that film release.
An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.
Godzilla is the only real monster movie that we are going to see hit the big screen this summer, and I really do hope that it lives up to its early promise.
If Edwards delivers the film that I am hoping that he will, this could well be one of the huge hits of the next couple of months.
Godzilla is released 15th May.
