Gareth Edwards

Gareth Edwards

Gareth Edwards is a director who really is on the rise, and he going to make quite a splash next year when his new Godzilla movie hits the big screen.

Edwards kicked off his directing career in TV and shorts before making the leap to feature film in 2010.

Monsters was the feature length directorial debut for the British filmmaker; and it was a movie that had just about everyone talking.

The movie was made for just $500,000 and yet it was one of the most beautiful looking movies of 2010.

Monsters is set six years after an alien invasion and follows a journalist and his boss' daughter as they travel through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the U.S. boarder.

Monsters is a sci-fi road movie and has tension and danger at every turn; Edwards really does well to keep that feeling of uncertainty hovering over the whole film.

But what is so unforgettable about Monsters is the way that the film looks and the images that Edwards capture. He showed that you don't need a huge budget and huge CGI special effects to creature a movie that really does look fantastic.

Since the success of Monsters we have not see Edwards back in the director's chair... but all that is about to change as we head into 2014.

Yes, Edwards is back, and this time he is tackling a blockbuster project. That blockbuster project comes in the form of Godzilla in a new film about the iconic monster.

Frank Darabont and Max Borenstein have penned the screenplay for the film, while Edwards has brought together a terrific cast.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn and Sally Hawkins are all on aboard.

Godzilla is set to be one of the early movie events of 2014 and it is going to be interesting to see what Edwards does with a much bigger project.

The director and the cast were at Comic Con this summer, but we are yet to see a first trailer for the film.

Early images and poster promise much and I can't wait to see Edwards back in the director's chair - lets hope he weaves his magic once again.

Godzilla is released 16th may 2014.
