To say that we are big fans of Studio Ghibli here at FemaleFirst would be a huge understatement; so, you can imagine that we are super excited for From Up On Poppy Hill this week.
The movie sees Goro Miyazaki return to the director's chair for the first time since he made his directorial debut with Tales from Earthsea.
If you are as excited to see this movie as we are, then we have a brand-new clip for you to check out:
Gillian Anderson, Beau Bridges, Christina Hendricks and Anton Yelchin have all lent their voices to this magical movie.
Set in Yokohama in 1963, this lovingly hand-drawn film centres on Umi (voiced by Sarah Bolger) and Shun (voiced by Anton Yelchin) and the budding romance that develops as they join forces to save their high school’s ramshackle clubhouse from demolition.
The top-grossing Japanese film of 2011 and winner of the Japan Academy Prize for Animation, From Up on Poppy Hill captures the innocence of new love as well as the beauty of Yokohama’s harbour and lush surroundings.
If you are a little tired of all the CGI, driven animation films that have been hitting the big screen in recent years, then From Up On Poppy Hill is the film for you.
Studio Ghibli still uses the traditional hand drawn technique and their movies are not only beautiful, but a breath of fresh air.
From Up On Poppy Hill is released 2nd August.
