We’re into our fifth month of the year, and with it comes a whole slew of new movies to get excited about. But what are our top five picks for the month which we can’t wait to get into cinemas and see? Look no further, as we go through 5 Movies Out This May We Can’t Wait To See.
5. Unlocked – Released May 5
Noomi Rapace and Orlando Bloom lead the cast here on a thriller that puts London at the heart and sees the city threatened with a biological terror attack. Though we’ve seen plenty of ‘terror attack’ related movies in the past, this one really does look to be different than the rest of the crowd, with conspiracies and thrilling action at the heart of the drama. Fast-paced and packed full of suspense and tension, this is one we can’t wait to see.
4. Alien: Covenant – Released May 12
Ridley Scott finally brings his latest Alien instalment to the big screen, following the huge surprise that was Prometheus. This time around, the likes of Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender and Danny McBride are heading up proceedings, but if we know anything about the Alien movies, it’s that not all of the all-star cast will be making it out of the story alive. On the colony ship Covenant, a crew are bound for a remote planet they think could become a paradise; little do they know a threat beyond their imagination is awaiting them.
3. Snatched – Released May 19
When her boyfriend dumps her just before the pair head out on an exotic paradise holiday, Emily Middleton (Amy Schumer) is forced to persuade her mother Linda (Goldie Hawn) to come along with her. The only trouble is, her mother is scared of absolutely everything, and of course on this trip, all of her fears become a reality. Though they’re polar opposites, the pair must learn to work through their differences as they attempt to escape a jungle adventure neither of them signed up for. This one looks like it could be a hilarious ride.
2. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword – Released May 19
Directed by Guy Ritchie, who also co-wrote alongside Joby Harold and Lionel Wigram comes King Arthur: Legend of the Sword; an adventure film that follows the adventures of the young Arthur, played by Charlie Hunnam. Unaware of his royal lineage, Arthur enjoys the back streets of Londinium with a shady crowd, but when he is able to draw the sword Excalibur from its stone, he realises that a mighty future awaits. Jude Law stars as the villainous Vortigern in the flick, whilst Astrid Berges-Frisbey is love interest Guinevere.
1. Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge – Released May 26
Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and company return for the latest instalment in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. With them comes Salazar (Javier Bardem); a man intent on revenge following a murky past shared with Captain Jack Sparrow. This looks like it could be the most compelling and jaw-dropping adventure brought to life by the Disney franchise to-date, so we certainly will be taking the opportunity to see it on the big screen. If swashbuckling action is your thing, look no further.
Other big movies out this month include Mindhorn (May 5), Colossal (May 19) and The Red Turtle (May 26).
