We’re already a few days into March, and with the month comes a whole slew of movies that we can’t wait to see. From crime-fighting mutants to cyber-humans, the month seems to have it all. Here are 5 movies out this month we can’t wait to watch…
5. Logan, out now
Hugh Jackman returns for his final outing as the mutant Wolverine, but delves deep into the future alongside an ailing Professor Charles Xavier, played by Patrick Stewart. Here, he’s forced to look after and protect a mysterious young girl who shows similar traits to those that he has, with adamantium claws coming from both of her hands, and even one coming from each of her feet whenever she feels the need to ‘pop’ them. An emotional journey, Logan has been given the highest certification possible to allow those behind the movie to tell the story exactly as it should be told. Wolverine’s world is a brutal one, and that’s more apparent than ever with this release.
4. Kong: Skull Island, in UK cinemas on March 12
Godzilla producers return to bring viewers to the birthplace of one of the world’s most powerful monster myths. Here, fans of King Kong will be able to get closer to the action than ever before as they’re taken back to 1973 and inserted right into the middle of a secretive organisation known only as Monarch. Finding an island shrouded by mystery, they rush to discover exactly what it is that makes it such a revered place, but some quickly regret their decision. Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman and Brie Larson all star.
3. Beauty and the Beast, in UK cinemas on March 17
Disney continue their trend of bringing classics to the modern day in live-action adaptations, this time allowing the story of Beauty and the Beast to be told once more. Emma Watson stars as Belle, with Dan Stevens as the Beast and Luke Evans as Gaston, in a movie that’s already got people talking across the globe due to some big changes in the narrative. At its heart though, the flick will always be one about romance and the way in which love can creep up on any of us, without warning.
2. Life, in UK cinemas on March 24
A team of scientists jump aboard the International Space Station, hoping to discover something groundbreaking to ensure their time in space is one that they can be cemented in history alongside. When their mission sees them find a rapidly evolving life form that caused extinction on Mars, however, their lives and the future of planet Earth is put on the line, and they quickly realise they were better off alone. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare, Hiroyuki Sanada and Ryan Reynolds, this sci-fi flick should tide Alien fans over until THAT movie hits the big screen later this year.
1. Ghost in the Shell, in UK cinemas on March 30
Based on the sci-fi Japanese manga property of the same name, Ghost in the Shell follows cyber-human experiment Major, through her journey of leading an elite task force. Taking on some of the world’s most dangerous criminals, she will face her toughest enemy yet alongside her team whose primary goal is wiping out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology. Scarlett Johansson stars in the leading role as Major, alongside ‘Beat’ Takeshi Kitano, Michael Carmen Pitt, Pilou Asbaek, Chin Han and Juliette Binoche.
