If there’s one thing that films and TV shows have taught us, it's that even the strangest pairings can make it work. Despite different personalities, appearances, or backgrounds, these couples somehow find a way to make their relationship work. These couples have since become some of the most beloved pairings in film and TV history. To celebrate the release of Long Shot (out now), we’re taking a look at our favourite odd couples.

Charlotte Field and Fred Flarsky – Long Shot

In Long Shot, Charlize Theron stars as Charlotte Field, Secretary of State and presidential candidate for 2020. She’s incredibly intelligent, with a natural talent for politics. Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen) is a gifted journalist with a self-destructive streak. On the surface, they have nothing in common, except that she was his baby sitter and first crush. As Charlotte prepares for her presidential run, she takes a chance and hires Fred to write her speeches. Despite their many differences, sparks fly as their unmistakable chemistry leads to a round-the-world romance that becomes embroiled in a series of dangerous and outlandish incidents.

Carrie and Big - Sex and the City

They had a very dysfunctional relationship throughout the series and films, but eventually they end up together. Carrie is a journalist who is obsessed with the idea of love and finding the perfect man, while Mr. Big is a socialite who is not planning on settling down. Carrie and Big are the most iconic example of a relationship that everyone is rooting for, but doesn’t always work out. We follow this couple through six seasons and two films as they break up and make up, each time with a new crazy twist.

Monica and Chandler - Friends

Monica and Chandler were friends for years before their relationship started. At first glance, they are complete opposites. Monica is a type-A personality and Chandler is very relaxed and sarcastic. Nobody expected this pair to be together; however, it is clear that they are meant to be. It was a big surprise to the characters, and the viewers, when Monica and Chandler started dating, but it was one of the best things to happen on the show.

Han Solo and Princess Leia - Star Wars

Princess Leia is the princess of Alderaan and Han Solo is a rugged space traveller. In the first few films, they hated each other. Leia thought he was greedy and selfish, and Han thought she was spoiled. They would frequently argue, until Han saved Luke’s from Darth Vader, and Leia started to fall in love. This couple was the perfect team, and worked together to save the galaxy time and time again. Leia and Han would stay together throughout the series, until Han’s unfortunate death.

April Ludgate and Andy Dwyer - Parks and Recreation

These two characters have very different personalities; however, they are the perfect pair. April is very negative and unexcited, but Andy is full of fun and happiness. At first glance, they wouldn’t work out, but throughout the show we see exactly why they belong together. Andy brings out April’s fun side, and April helps control Andy’s crazy behaviour. They are the best example of opposites attract in a television show.
