2021 has been a great year for both TV and movies, and with July just around the corner, we’ve compiled a list of seven films for you to go and see at the cinema!
Black Widow - July 7th
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have been waiting for Scarlett Johansson’s solo movie for what seems like forever. Now, in only weeks’ time, we will be able to see the long-awaited film, Black Widow.
Scarlett Johansson is back to play Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow), this time in her very own movie. The feature was supposed to come out a while ago, but coronavirus delays meant that the film had to be moved back a few times.
After years of waiting, the MCU is finally showing Romanoff’s past, hinted at in many other MCU movies. Not only do we get a Black Widow origin story, we also get a brand-new villain; Taskmaster is set to appear as a character who can copy anything anyone does, making him a seemingly formidable villain for Romanoff to face-off against.
Space Jam: A New Legacy – July 16th
The mixture of live action and animation is a thing that has been done a few times before, and Space Jam from 1996 obviously did a good enough job to warrant another movie.
NBA star LeBron James and his young son, Dom (Cedric Joe) get trapped in digital space by rogue Al (Don Cheadle). To escape, they must team up with the Looney Tunes gang and try to find a way to get back home.
Get ready for an action-packed movie that will please the whole family, and have everyone laughing the whole way through!
The Forever Purge – July 16th
The Purge franchise began in 2013, and saw America in both fear and excitement as The Purge, an event that takes place once per year in which all crime, including murder, is legal for 12 hours, terrified audiences and characters alike.
We’ve seen families torn apart by the event, we’ve seen the origins of The Purge, and now we’re set to be introduced to some US citizens who want to get rid of the 12-hour Purge time, and make it so there is no limit to The Purge
The Forever Purge is set to instil new fear into the franchise, as a group of people attempt to fight back against those who wish to turn America into a cleansing country.
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions – July 16th
2019 saw the release of thriller Escape Room, in which a small group of people were mysteriously brought to a room and told they simply had to find a way out; little did they know, getting out would be the hardest challenge many of them have faced.
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions is set to bring back those who have survived these killer games in the past, and seems to pit winner against winner and find out who is the best survivor.
If this sequel is anything like the first movie, it will be an action-packed and thrilling experience as the characters will most likely be killed off one by one – but who will survive?
Wrath of Man – July 23rd
Jason Statham takes the lead in upcoming action movie Wrath of Man, in which a distraught man seeks revenge for an event that left him seething for revenge.
Statham’s character, simply called H, takes a job working a heist. He surprises everyone by unleashing a wrath of anger and death, showing that he is a formidable man not to be messed with. H just wants to settle a score, and it seems he will do anything to make that happen.
Statham is something of an action legend, and his rough-around-the-edges demeanour gives his character a deep and rugged feel, making H a deadly foe from the start.
Wrath of Man sees Statham fight like never before, and with a clandestine score to settle, we will no doubt see H’s ruthless and domineering character get what he wants.
The Suicide Squad – July 30th
The long-awaited DC movie The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn, is almost here! While it isn’t clear if this film is a reboot or a remake, it is clear that this feature will blow us all away.
Gunn, director of the Guardians movies, seems to have created something spectacular with the new Suicide Squad film, as fans cannot wait to flood to cinemas at the end of July (2021) and see the brilliant roster of characters tackle a mission that could kill them all.
With Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn once more, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller for a second time, and new characters like Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker, Peter Capaldi as Thinker, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark, and more; this film is shaping up to be one of DC’s best movies.
Jungle Cruise – July 30th
Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson star side-by-side in this wacky movie about a doctor and a skipper travelling down the Amazon in search of a magic tree.
Doctor Lily Houghston (Blunt) enlists the help of boat skipper Frank Wolff (Johnson) to take her down the Amazon River, in search of a special tree that holds the power of healing. If she finds it, Lily can help change the future of medicine forever.
With slapstick comedy and two brilliant main characters, Jungle Cruise is set to be a brilliant and hilarious adventure!
