Scarlett Johnasson as Black Widow
There may have been a bunch of Marvel movies enjoying huge success and striking chords with audiences - Marvel films really are the hottest thing at the box office at the moment.
Despite all of this success there is yet to be a female Marvel character get a solo outing… but all that could be about to change.
Kevin Feige revealed earlier this week that there could be a female superhero movie in the pipeline. But which character will be getting the solo big screen treatment? We take a look at a few possibilities.
Black Widow
Of all the Marvel female heroes Black Widow is the only one that has made it to the big screen - portrayed by the very lovely Scarlett Johansson.
We were introduced to this character for the first time in Iron Man before becoming a huge part of Avengers Assemble last summer. She will be back next year as she teams up with Chris Pine for Captain America: The Winter Solider.
Black Widow seems the obvious place to start when launching a female led Marvel movie as she is a character that is already well established and well liked. In Avengers Assemble hints were revealed about her past that could make a very intriguing and dark movie.
Ever since Scarlett Johansson took on this role back in 2010 there has been talk of a solo Black Widow movie - and I have to admit that it is one that I would like to see.
Ms. Marvel
Major Carol Danvers made her comic debut in 1968 and was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gene Colan and was a member of the United States Air Force.
Throughout the comics of the sixties she was the run of the mill human and Security Chief of a restricted military base where she met Dr Walter Lawson, the human alias of Captain Marvel, a Kree hero.
When a Kree device explodes Danvers is caught in the blast. By the seventies she resurfaced with new abilities that included super strength, endurance and stamina… and Ms Marvel was born.
Ms Marvel is a strong, powerful and iconic member of the Marvel universe that has appeared in Avengers and X-Men comic stories over the years.
She-Hulk
Jennifer Walters first appeared in 1980 and was created by writer Stan Lee and artist John Buscema. In the comic she is a cousin of Bruce Banner and, after receiving an emergency blood transfusion from him inherited a milder version of his Hulk condition.
Marvel rebooted the character of the Hulk in Avengers Assemble last year and is yet to give Bruce Banner his own solo movie with Mark Ruffalo in the role. Could they be thinking of bringing these two characters together to help push the story forward?
In the comic She Hulk has been a member of the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. as well as The Fantastic Four and Heroes for Hire.
Spider-Woman
While Spider Man currently isn’t part of the Marvel movies set up they could quite easily introduce us to Spider-Woman.
Jessica Drew was introduced to comic fans back in 1977 and was injected by an experimental serum based on irradiated spider blood In her father’s bid to save her from uranium exposure - this leaves her with superhuman strength, reflexes and speed.
Spider Woman is one of the most interesting female characters in the Marvel world as she has links with HYDRA, S.H.I.E.L.D., The Avengers and Captain America’s Secret Avengers.
Scarlet Witch
There has been much talk about Scarlet Witch over the last few weeks as it is believed that she will be making an appearance, along with her brother Quicksilver, in Avengers 2.
The brother/sister duo are the children of Magneto and it will be the first time that the pair will have been featured in any marvel movie.
Scarlet Witch, a mutant who has the power to control probability, first appeared in 1964 and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
Both Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver became members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, who did battle with the X-Men, before joining the Avengers.
So could the appearance of Scarlet Witch at the end of Phase 2 of Marvel films signal that she is the female character that will get a solo outing?
Kevin Feige has only hinted that this is in the pipeline and there are no set plans or release dates. However we will not be seeing this movie anytime soon as there is no place for it in Phase 2 of Marvel movies - Phase 2 comes to a close in 2015 with Avengers 2.
