Over the years, Disney have taken some of the greatest books and tales and turned them into iconic movies.
The likes of Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella & Peter Pan have all been brought to life by Disney, and now we are going to be seeing them in a very different light.
We have already seen the likes of Alice In Wonderland and Snow White and the Huntsman hit the big screen, and now more iconic figures from Disney's back catalogue that are being given a live-action makeover.
- Maleficent - out now
Sleeping Beauty was brought to the big screen for the first time back in 1959, when Disney based their film on La Belle au bois dormant by Charles Perrault and Little Briar Rose by The Brothers Grimm.
It was the sixteenth film in the Disney series, but now we are going to see the tale told in a very different way.
Maleficent is one of Disney's most iconic villains, and she takes centre stage in this new film: Angelina Jolie is on board in the title role.
Instead of focusing on Princess Aurora, the movie delves into the history of Maleficent to discover what made her the villain we know her to be.
Robert Stromberg is making his directorial debut with the film, while Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, & Imelda Staunton will also star.
- Cinderella - released 3rd April 2015
Cinderella was the twelfth Disney animated film, and was released all the way back in 1950.
It was based on the fairy tale Cendrillon by Charles Perrault, and featured some of Disney's most famous characters and songs.
In 2015, we are going to see this famous tale given a life-action makeover, as Kenneth Branagh returns to the director's chair.
Lily James will take on the title role, while Richard Madden, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, and Holliday Grainger will also star.
The movie filmed in the UK from September to December 2013, and is currently in post-production.
- Pan - released 17th July 2015
Peter Pan is the most famous play by J. M Barrie, and was given a Disney makeover back in 1953: it was the studio's fourteenth film.
Filming is already underway on a new interpretation of that popular story, with British filmmaker Joe Wright at the helm.
The movie is set to explore the early years of Peter Pan, with Jason Fuchs penning the screenplay.
Levi Miller will take on the role of Peter Pan, while Hugh Jackman and Garrett Hedlund are on board as Blackbeard and Hook.
Amanda Seyfried, Rooney Mara, Nonso Anozie, and Kathy Burke are some of the other big names on board.
- The Jungle Book - 16th October 2015
The Jungle Book is one of my favourite Disney films, and hit the big screen back in 1967.
The Rudyard Kipling novel of the same name was set to music, and boasted some of Disney's most memorable characters.
There are two Jungle Book projects on the horizon, with Jon Favreau & Andy Serkis both set to take up the director's chair.
Justin Marks will pen the screenplay for the Favreau film: it has already been announced that Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba, & Lupita Nyong'o will voice the characters of Kaa, Shere Khan & Rakcha.
Andy Serkis will direct the second film, which will be brought to the big screen by Warner Bros: no cast or release date has been announced.
- Through The Looking Glass - released 27th May 2016
It was back in 2010 when Tim Burton and Disney steered Alice In Wonderland to a billion dollar box office success.
In 2016, Through The Looking Glass will hit the big screen as Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska and Helen Bonham Carter set to reprise their roles of Mad Hatter, Alice, and the Red Queen.
The movie will see James Bobin return to the director's chair: he has brought us The Muppets & The Muppets Most Wanted in recent years.
The film is currently in pre-production and the plot is being kept under wraps: just how closely it will mirror the book is still a mystery.
- The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid is another Disney fave, and was an adaptation of the fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson.
This movie is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary next year, and a live action version looks set to becoming our way.
Not too much is known about this project, except it looks set follow the original tale more closely than the Disney version.
Sofia Coppola has been linked with the director's chair, while Emma Watson has been one of the names banded around for the central role.
No release date for this movie has yet been released.
