There Will Be Blood

There Will Be Blood

There Will be Blood was released back in 2008 and saw Daniel Day-Lewis return to the big screen. We had seen the actor take on villainous roles before, but he delivered one of the performances of his career as Daniel Plainview.

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson the movie was loosely based on the novel Oil by Upton Sinclair, and was one of the most critically acclaimed movies of the year.

Daniel Day-Lewis has taken on an abundance of roles in the last ten years, but Daniel Plainview is one of his most famous roles.

Plainview is a gold miner turned oilman who is on a ruthless quest for wealth and power in Southern California during the oil boom.

There Will Be Blood is an intelligent and masterful piece of cinema, and yet it is Day-Lewis who dominates every scene that he is in and commands the attention of the audience.

There is nothing likeable about this character at all, as Day-Lewis brings out everything that is ugly about greed and seeking success - despite this character being a truly vile human being, you just cannot take your eyes off him for a single second.

Daniel Day-Lewis is a an actor who has always invested himself totally in whatever character that he has played; that is what always makes his performances so rich and so real.

With Daniel Plainview, he really does get under the skin of this character to show that he is incapable of liking or loving anyone who is not of use to him.

There is not a single moment of Day-Lewis’ performance that is not totally captivating, and he was the toast of the awards circuit.

The British actor won just about every award that he was nominated for, including a second Best Actor Oscar.

There is not a single other actor who could have played this role with more venom and more menace that Day-Lewis.
