Michael B. Jordan is an actor who is well and truly on the rise and he will return to the big screen next year with new boxing film Creed.
Jordan is set to take on the role of Adonis Johnson - son of Apollo Creed - as the Rocky franchise goes in a new and quite exciting direction. The movie will see Jordan team up with Sylvester Stallone for the first time as he reprises the role of Rocky... however, this time he is a trainer not a fighter.
Apollo Creed is one of the most popular characters in the Rocky franchise and it is great to see him remembered in this latest film. The brand new trailer for the movie has been released and shows both Jordan and Stallone in action. Check it out:
Creed marks the return of Ryan Coogler to the director's chair; he has also teamed up with Aaron Covington to pen the screenplay. Coogler made a splash back in 2014 when he made his directorial debut with Fruitvale Station and this is his first film since making that debut.
Creed will also mark the second time that the filmmaker has teamed up with Jordan, who took on the role of Oscar Grant III in Fruitvale Station - a movie that really helped put this actor on the map.
Jordan and Stallone are joined on the cast list by Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad and Anthony Bellew.
Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there's no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed's legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.
Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer. Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo - the fierce rival who became his closest friend. Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.
With Rocky in his corner, it isn't long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title... but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring?
Rocky is one of cinema's most iconic characters and it is great to see Stallone back and becoming the mentor for Creed that Mickey was to him.
Creed is released in 2016.
