Chris Pine in Star Trek Into Darkness
Chris Pine is reprising the role of James T. Kirk this week as he will lead an all star cast in Star Trek Into Darkness.
The actor has tackled a wide range of roles throughout his decade long career but over the last couple of years he really has started cementing himself as an action hero.
This transition into action star was kicked off in 2009 when he was cast as Kirk in the J.J. Abrams' reboot of Star Trek.
Star Trek really did put Pine on the map as he stepped into iconic shoes and put a new spin on a very popular character.
Pine's depiction of Kirk in Star Trek was a huge success as he confidently put his own spin on this role and showed that he had the chops to lead such a huge blockbuster.
And while Pine has tackled horror with Carriers and drama with People Like Us the actor does keep returning to more action based roles - and he really is perfect for this genre.
Unstoppable saw him team up with Denzel Washington and Tony Scott at the end of 2010 for Unstoppable.
The movie wasn't exactly about killing loads of bad guys and saving the world but it did have a strong action streak to it as Pine and Washington had to stop a runaway train.
Tony Scott has always known how to deliver an action packed movie and he did exactly that with Unstoppable as it was a fast paced thriller that was full of twists and turns.
This Means War was next as he teamed up with Tom Hardy in McG's action;/comedy.
The film saw Pine and Hardy work together for the first time as two CGI operatives who wage a battle with each other after they fall for the same girl.
And while a lot of the movie sees the pair doing battle with each other there are some great action set pieces that do mean that it is more than just a rom com.
But this week Pine looks set to take his action role to a whole new level with Star Trek Into Darkness - it will be the biggest role of his career to date.
Abrams is back in the director's chair for the film, which promises to be bigger and more daring than the first.
Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise are pushed to the limit in the new film as they face a dangerous enemy... one of their own.
Pine is joined on the cast list by Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban and Zachary Quinto - who are all reprising roles - while Benedict Cumberbatch and Alice Eve are the big new additions.
At the end of the year we will be seeing Pine return to the action genre once again as he takes over the role of Jack Ryan.
Pine is the latest actor to play the Tom Clancy created character and the first since Ben Affleck.
Kenneth Branagh is in the director's chair as well as on the cast list while Keira Knightley and Kevin Costner are also on board the movie.
Jack Ryan looks set to see 2013 out with a bang as Pine once again shows that he is an action hero in the making.
