It is fair to say that Johnny Depp has been a little of the boil when it comes to some of his acting roles of late... it looks like all that is about to change with the release of new gangster film Black Mass.
Black Mass is a movie that I have been looking forward to all year and it looks like Depp is back on great form as he takes on the central role of White Bulger, one of America's most notorious criminals.
There is already talk about Depp being in the Best Actor Oscar race once again as he teams up with director Scott Cooper for the first time. Black Mass is the third feature for Cooper and follows the success of Crazy Heart and Out of the Furnace.
We are counting down the days until Black Mass hits the big screen here at FemaleFirst and we have some really great clips for you to check out:
Depp is no stranger to the gangster genre with the likes of Public Enemies and Donnie Brasco under his belt and I am glad to see him returning to this type of film and role once again.
However, it is not all about Depp as a terrific supporting has been assembled around him with Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Kevin Bacon, Pete Sarsgaard, Jesse Plemons, and Dakota Johnson all also set to star.
In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James 'Whitey' Bulger (Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob.
Black Mass tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiralled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.
Could 2016 be the year that we finally get his hands on a Best Actor Oscar? Should Depp sang a nomination, it would be the fourth Best Actor nod of his career; coming after Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Finding Neverland, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Black Mass is released 25th November.
