Science Fiction is one of the most exciting film genres - you never quite know what is around the corner.
Over the years, we have been treated to some great sci-fi films, and there has been some terrific artwork to go along with it.
We take a look at some of the standout sci-fi posters... there were so many to choose from.
- Alien (1979)
Alien may be a movie that is over thirty years old, and yet it remains one of the greatest and most loved science fiction films of all time.
The artwork is just as iconic as the film and 'In space no one can hear you scream' is also one of the most chilling taglines.
The poster was designed by Bill Gold and the egg is an incredibly striking feature. However, this egg design was not used in the movie itself: a different design was used for the John Hurt scene.
- E.T. (1982)
They really don't make kid's movies like this anymore. E.T. is my favourite of all of Steven Spielberg's movies, and it remains a sci-fi gem.
There are a couple of terrific poster designs for the film - the one with the touching alien and human fingers is also terrific.
The bike in front of the moon is one of the film's most enduring images, and it makes for a very beautiful and iconic movie poster.
- District 9 (2009)
Neill Blomkamp burst on to the scene back in 2009 with District 9, which is one of the best directorial debuts in recent years.
The movie follows humans and aliens living together in Johannesburg and the tensions that are between the two communities.
As well as being an action packed movie, Blomkamp cleverly weaves into a message of racial prejudice and how we judge on appearance, which works beautifully.
This simple piece of artwork shows the feelings that the humans have towards the alien visitors.
- The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Star Wars is still one of the most loved franchises of all time, but The Empire Strikes Back is widely regarded as the best film in that series.
We make get a peek at our heroes in this fab poster, but Darth Vader looming large over them drops a big hint as to what happens in the film.
The Star Wars franchise is packed with terrific pieces of artwork, but this remains one of the most powerful and one of the best.
- 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
It is hard to believe that 2001: A Space Odyssey was released back in 1968, as it remains one of the best movies in this genre.
Once again, there was a range of poster designed for this film, many of which are just terrific.
But this is a poster that really sums up how visually striking the movie is. There is something mesmerising and yet quite chilling about it at the same time.
- Wall E (2008)
Pixar have become a real force in the world of animation, and Wall-E remains one of their greatest triumphs.
Wall-E - a waste collecting robot - follows the title character as he sets out on a huge space adventure.
And it is Wall-E who takes centre stage in this poster. As well as being stunning it also captures the loneliness of this character.
- Metropolis (1927)
Director Fritz Lang's Metropolis remains an expressionist masterpiece - it really does remain a true classic in this genre.
This poster really does capture the essence and the style of the film. It is a striking piece of artwork that has stood the test of time and is as powerful today as it was when it was first released.
- Independence Day (1996)
Independence Day celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2016, and it really is a terrific blockbuster film.
This was the movie that really put Will Smith on the map as a big screen leading man, as he teamed up with director Roland Emmerich.
The poster really does capture the feeling of the spaceship looming over the earth... not to mention it is destroying one of the most iconic buildings in the world.
Other great sci-fi film posters include Back To The Future, War of the Worlds, Cloverfield, and Blade Runner.
