It’s that wonderful time of the year once again, and this time we turn to Netflix to give you the best films to watch during the holiday season!
The Grinch (2018)
The Grinch is a character we all know and love, despite his super grouchy attitude.
This beautifully-animated film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the moody Christmas creature, and follows his efforts to ruin the holidays for everyone – with the help of his adorable dog Max.
The film is perfect for the festive season, a wonderful family-friendly flick for families spending the holidays together – or anyone who loves animated movies and Christmas, which is a match made in heaven.
The Holiday (2006)
A heartwarming Christmas movie, meant more for the grown-ups than the little ones.
Two women struggling with their love lives swap houses over the holiday period – only for them to both find everything they wanted. Amanda (Cameron Diaz) finds love after a one-night stand that turns into much more, and Iris (Kate Winslet) watches a man get his heart broken, only for her to fix it (and for him to fix her broken heart, too).
This film is witty and wonderful: it’s the perfect film to put your feet up to and watch Christmas bring people together.
Christmas with the Kranks (2004)
Returning to the family-friendly flicks, Christmas with the Kranks follows a family who decide not to celebrate the big day one year – no decorations, no cards, no tree!
But, when their daughter returns for the holidays, the Kranks begin to rush around the house like madmen to organise the perfect Christmas Day!
A simple plot, but a simply brilliant film to watch with the little ones, as what is Christmas without a little panic?
The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
Two siblings decide to try and capture Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on Christmas Eve, which seems a bad idea from the start!
Their plan, as you may have guessed, goes rather wrong and instead of capturing Santa they must work with him to save Christmas, along with his loyal elves!
The film’s plot may seem familiar, but the laughs and trouble they get into along the way is brand new as Russell does a jolly job as Santa himself.
The sequel to this fantastic festive flick, The Christmas Chronicles 2, has just been released to Netflix!
Jack Whitehall: Christmas with my Father (2019)
While not technically a movie, this comedy Christmas special is perfect for those looking for something to really make them laugh over the holiday period.
Jack Whitehall is one of the funniest comedians we have, and his father, being almost the polar opposite to Jack, makes for some perfect comedy. Jack and his father reminisce about Christmas at their house throughout Jack’s life, from embarrassing to ever-so-slightly wholesome.
A perfect watch for a late-night Netflix binge for the grown-ups, as special guests like Andrew Lloyd Webber and Graham Norton liven up the show even more!
Arthur Christmas (2011)
Arthur Christmas (James McAvoy) is enlisted to help save Christmas by his father, Father Christmas! (Bill Nighy)
The two must deliver a missing present, belonging to a little girl, before it is too late and Christmas is ruined!
The charming animation coupled with an adventure to save Christmas with not only Santa, but his son too! The hijinks the pair get up to is a beautiful thing to watch with the family, as the father and son duo work together to deliver the missing present on time.
