Ben-Hur is one of the biggest films of all time and now the next generation will be introduced to the story this summer as a new interpretation hits the big screen.
Ben-Hur marks the return of Timur Bekmambetov to the director's chair. He has brought us films such as Night Watch, Day Watch, and Wanted and this is his first feature film since Yolki 1914 back in 2014.
John Ridley, who penned the screenplay for 12 Years A Slave, has teamed up with Keith R. Clarke to adapt Lew Wallace's novel into a new screenplay.
We have already been treated to the first two images from the film this week and now the first trailer and poster have been unveiled. Check it out:
Jack Huston has landed the central role of Judah Ben-Hur and is joined on the cast list by Nazanin Boniadi, Morgan Freeman, Toby Kebbell, and Rodrigo Santoro; who take on the roles of Esther, Ilderim, Messala, and Jesus.
Haluk Bilginer, Pilou Asbæk, Moises Arias, Yasen Atour, David Walmsley, Ayelet Zurer, and Sofia Black-D'Elia are all also on board.
After falsely being accused of assassination by boyhood friend Messala (Kebbell), Judah Ben-Hur (Huston), is sentenced to slavery. After five years in the gallery of a Roman slave ship, he escapes and takes on the Roman Empire - and Messala - in a chariot race.
It was back in 1959 when Ben-Hur first hit the big screen with Charlton Heston in the title role - the movie went on to win eleven Oscars, including Best Picture.
I am looking forward to seeing this new interpretation of the story and how Bekmambetov puts his own stamp on the tale.
Ben-Hur is released 26th August.
