A Steven Soderbergh movie is always something to get excited about and Behind the Candelabra is his latest offering.
Whether Soderbergh is retiring from directing or just taking a hiatus it is a shame that he is stepping away from the camera for a while as he is a fine filmmaker.
Behind the Candelabra sees the director reunite with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon to follow the relationship between Liberace and his lover Scott Thorson.
And here is the brand new trailer for the film for you to take a look at:
Douglas has worked with Soderbergh on the likes of Traffic and Haywire and this is the first film for the actor since he took on the role of Alex Coblenz in the latter.
As for Damon this is the sixth collaboration with Soderbergh after working on the Ocean's trilogy, The Informant and Contagion.
Behind the Candelabra will be competing for the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes and it set to be one of the most talked about movies to be screened at the festival.
Before Elvis, before Elton John, Madonna and Lady Gaga, there was Liberace - infamous pianist, outrageous entertainer and flamboyant star of stage and television.
A name synonymous with showmanship and extravagance, he lit up every stage he performed on, as bright as his candelabras and with a unique flair that gained him millions of devoted fans across the globe.
In the summer of 1977, handsome young stranger Scott Thorson walked into Liberace’s dressing room and, despite their age difference and seemingly different worlds, the two embarked on a secretive five-year love affair.
To the outside world Scott was an employee, at most a friend, but behind closed doors his life with Liberace was an intense rollercoaster of hedonistic fun, flamboyance and excess.
Steven Soderbergh has been behind some truly terrific movies over the last few years and if this is to be his final film project then he looks set to go out with a bang.
Behind The Candelabra is released 7th June.
