Baltasar Kormakur is back in the director's chair this week with his brand new movie The Deep - a movie about is based on a real life story of survival.
The Icelandic actor has enjoyed a very varied career as an actor as well as a director in film and theatre.
But in recent years he has been making more of a name for himself behind the camera; The Deep has been a huge success for him.
Kormakur kicked off his career as an actor as he made his debut back in 1992 in Wallpaper: An Erotic Love Story, before going on to the likes of Agnes, Dream Hunters and Devil's Island.
His acting career has seen him make twelve feature films and it was 2008 in Reykjavik-Rotterdam that we last saw him in front of the camera.
He made the leap into directing back in 2000 with 101 Reykjavik - which was based on the book of the same name by Hallghrimur Helgason.
The movie played at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the Discovery Film Award. Kormakur's directing career was up and running and he has never looked back.
The Sea, A Little Trip to Heaven, Jar City and Inhale have all followed as he moved between Icelandic projects and American films.
His biggest and most mainstream film came in 2012 when he teamed up with Mark Wahlberg for action/thriller Contraband.
The movie was a remake of the film Reykjavík-Rotterdam that Kormakur has starred in earlier in his career.
Wahlberg took on the lead role as an ex-smuggler who is forced back into the game to protect his family.
Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster and Giovanni Ribisi all joined Wahlberg on the an exciting cast list.
The Deep sees Kormakur return to an Icelandic project as he teamed up with Jon Atli Jonasson to pen the screenplay.
Based on a true story the movie follows a fisherman as he tries to survive in the freezing ocean after his boat capsizes off the south coast of Iceland.
The movie has been met well by the critics and was Iceland's entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar; it make the January shortlist.
And we are going to be seeing more of Kormakur in the director's chair this summer as he is set to return with 2 Guns.
The movie sees him reunite with Wahlberg, while he also teams up with Oscar winner Denzel Washington for the first time.
