Bad Neighbours
Which comedy movie are you looking forward to the most this year? 2014 is set to be a great year for comedy as we see some of Hollywood's biggest names tackle this genre.
We check out some of the comedy movies that you cannot miss over the coming months, as Bad Neighbours hits the big screen this weekend.
- Bad Neighbours - released 3rd May
Bad Neighbours kicks us off as it sees Nicholas Stoller return to the director's chair.
Stoller is a filmmaker who is no stranger to this genre, having brought us Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him To The Greek in recent years.
Bad Neighbours sees him team up with Seth Rogen, Zac Efron and Rose Byrne, as neighbour goes head to head with neighbour in an all-out war.
Bad Neighbours follows a young couple who are forced to live next to a fraternity house after the birth of their newborn baby.
While Rogen and Byrne are no stranger to the comedy genre, Efron has really only tackled the genre this year. They promise to be a great team.
- A Million Ways To Die In The West - released 30th May
We haven't seen Seth MacFarlane in the director's chair since he steered Ted to huge success back in 2012, but now he is back.
A Million Ways To Die In The West sees MacFarlane, direct, write and star as he tackles the comedy/Western.
MacFarlane has no shortage of big named stars wanting to work with him, as Liam Neeson, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Neil Patrick Harris and Giovanni Ribisi will all star: you have to say, that is a pretty impressive line-up.
After Albert backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend leaves him for another man. When a mysterious and beautiful woman rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love.
But when her husband, a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.
MacFarlane is a bit of a genius when it comes to comedy, and I can't wait to see what he delivers with this new film.
- 22 Jump Street - released 6th June
If there is one comedy movie that just about everyone seems to be talking about, it is 22 Jump Street.
I was a huge fan of the first movie, and it is great to see Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill reuniting once again as undercover cops Jenko and Schmidt.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are also back in the director's chair for the sequel - the duo have already enjoyed box office success this year with The Lego Movie.
After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) when they go deep undercover at a local college.
However, when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don’t have to just crack the case - they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship.
The movie comes two years after the success of 21 Jump Street, and this sequel should perform just as well at the box office.
- Chef - released 18th June
Jon Favreau is swapping the big budget blockbuster for a comedy project as he returns to the director's chair with Chef.
This is the first directorial outing for Favreau since Cowboys & Aliens: he will also star in the film and has penned the screenplay.
A great cast has been assembled for the film, as Favreau is joined by Dustin Hoffman, Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, Scarlett Johansson, and Robert Downy Jr.
Chef Carl Casper (Favreau) suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Hoffman); he is left to figure out what’s next.
Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife (Vergara), his friend (Leguizamo) and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen - and zest for life and love.
I am a big fan of Favreau, and it is great to see him tackling something completely different.
- Walk of Shame
We are big fans of Elizabeth Banks here at FemaleFirst, and she is back with new comedy project Walk of Shame.
The movie sees Banks team up with director Steven Brill, as he delivers his first full-length film since Drillbit Taylor back in 2008.
Banks takes on the central role in the film, and is joined on the cast list by James Marsden, Gillian Jacobs, and Sarah Wright.
After losing an audition for her dream job, an aspiring Los Angeles TV news anchor goes out for an uncharacteristic night of partying.
She awakes in a stranger’s bed to a phone message from her agent telling her the job is hers, if she can make it across town by 5pm.
Stranded in an unknown area without money, a phone, and a car, she embarks on a series of misadventures as she races to the most important job interview of her life.
- Sex Tape - released 5th September
We have already seen Cameron Diaz star in comedy The Other Woman this year, but she will return in September with Sex Tape.
Sex Tape will see Diaz reunite with director Jake Kasdan - whom she worked with on Bad Teacher: this is Kasdan's first film since then.
Jason Segel, jack Black, Jolene Blalock and Rob Lowe complete an all-star line-up, in a film that looks set to be laugh out loud funny.
When Jay (Segel) and Annie (Diaz) first got together, their romantic connection was intense - but ten years and two kids later, the flame of their love needs a spark.
To kick things up a notch, they decide - why not? - to make a video of themselves trying out every position in The Joy of Sex in one marathon three-hour session. It seems like a great idea - until they discover that their most private video is no longer private.
Other comedies to watch out for include Tammy, Bad Words. This Is Where I Leave You. and Horrible Bosses 2.
