This week has been filled with more exciting movie news! Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill are joining forces in a new comedy, The Old Guard sequel has a director on board, and the teaser trailer for Devil’s Light landed during CinemaCon. Read about all this, and more, below!
Ryan Reynolds’ The Adam Project will arrive in 2022
Shawn Levy, director for The Adam Project has stated that the Ryan Reynolds’-led feature will arrive on Netflix in the early months of 2022.
The sci-fi film stars Reynolds in the lead role as Adam, a man who travels back in time to find his 12-year-old self, in order to get his help in confronting their late father.
The cast for this movie is great so far, with Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo acting as Adam’s parents, Walker Scobell as young Adam, with Zoe Saldana and Alex Mallari Jr.
Levy has claimed that audiences can expect a trailer before 2021 ends, which seems plausible as the filming wrapped in March this year (2021); we’ll be keeping an eye open for sure.
The Flash film isn’t a comic book movie
According to the cinematographer for the project, upcoming film The Flash, starring Ezra Miller, will not be a comic book film, but rather a visual and exciting journey.
Much like Joker (2019), that took a DC character but painted the story on a blank canvas, it seems that The Flash is doing the same; if the cinematographer is correct.
The movie will be taking place after Justice League, presumably the 2017 version due to the abandonment of the SnyderVerse by Warner Bro.’s, but this is not confirmed.
The film will be focusing on the idea of Flashpoint, where The Flash unlocks the door to the multiverse, and chaos follows. Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton will both be returning as Batman; a very exciting idea.
Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill co-starring in Netflix comedy
Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill are joining forces to star un an untitled comedy for Netflix; Hill co-wrote the movie with director Kenya Barris.
It seems that the movie will be exploring some of the most troublesome problems in American society today, such as generational and cultural divides.
Murphy’s character will supposedly oppose Hill’s character in regard to these topics within the movie; in reality, however, the two actors have a lot in common which should, in turn, bring about a brilliant performance from them both whenever this film hits Netflix.
The Devil’s Light teaser trailer showcases demonic possession
A trailer for Daniel Stamm’s new supernatural horror, The Devil’s Light, has been shown off behind closed doors at CinemaCon.
Based on a story by Robert Zappia, Earl Richey Jones and Todd Jones, the movie focuses on Sister Ann (Jaqueline Byers), a nun studying to perform exorcisms, who comes face-to-face with a demonic force that links to her past.
The teaser trailer, as the name suggests, didn’t give much away, but it seems that the short look of people losing their minds and a nun being attacked is enough to arouse interest in the upcoming movie.
The Devil’s Light is expected to release in 2022.
Keanu Reeves is filming John Wick 4 in three countries
The Lionsgate panel at CinemaCon revealed that everyone’s favourite actor, Keanu Reeves, is filming John Wick: Chapter 4 in three different countries.
Despite details on the plot for this movie being hidden from us, it is theorised that this movie will pick up from where the last one left off; with Winston (Ian McShane) appearing to betray Wick (Reeves) for fealty to the High Table. However, Wick was saved and offered a chance to bring down the High Table.
Aaron Couch, editor of The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, took to Twitter and stated that Reeves is filming in Japan, Germany and France ‘as we speak’.
John Wick: Chapter 4 will hit cinemas on May 27th, 2022.
The Old Guard 2 gets director
Veronica Mahoney steps in for Gina Prince-Bythewood as the director of The Old Guard 2; the original cast will also be returning, including Charlize Theron and Kiki Layne.
Based on a comic book of the same name, The Old Guard, which released onto Netflix last year (2021), proved to a be a wild success for the platform. The movie follows a group of immortal warriors turned mercenaries, but they become targets when a pharmaceutical company wishes to experiment on them.
The ending to the first one saw a presumed dead/lost character to be very much alive and, while no plot details have been shared yet, we can bet that this scene will be a big part of the upcoming sequel.
A Quiet Place actress doesn’t know if she will return for third film
Despite A Quiet Place: Part II paving the way for yet another sequel, actress Millicent Simmonds, who plays the family’s daughter Regan, isn’t sure if she will be returning for the third movie with the other original cast members.
The first movie came out in 2018, and proved to be an outstanding hit with audiences; its perfectly-crafted story and eerie monsters had viewers hooked. The second movie (2021) showcased the same scares and creepy atmosphere, but on a bigger, more dramatic scale.
Many people think that the third instalment could be a spin off, and focus on a different family or community; it isn’t clear if, after the cliffhanger in the second film, we will see the Abbott family receive closure.
Simmonds has stated that she hasn’t heard anything in regard to a third film, but is excited to find out and hopes that she will be involved, along with co-stars Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, and Noah Jupe.
