Antoine Fuqua

Antoine Fuqua

Antoine Fuqua is back in the director's chair this week with his new action movie Olympus Has Fallen.

The movie sees him team up with Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart for his first big screen outing in three years.

Fuqua has hopes to work in the military before he found his way into filmmaking and he kicked off his career shooting music videos.

But it wasn't long before he moved into feature film and he made his debut back in 1998 with The Replacement Killers.

The movie looks at the influence of triads in modern society and saw Chow Yun-fat lead the cast in this action packed movie.

It was a tough start to Fuqua's directing career as the movie struggled at the box office and was not met well by the critics.

But it wasn't long before Fuqua show just what kind of filmmaker he was as he helmed Training Day back in 2002.

Hard to believe but the movie celebrated it's 10th anniversary last year and the performances from Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke are as good now as they were when the movie was first released.

David Ayer penned the script which followed to LAPD narcotics detectives over a 24 hour period in LA.

Training Day was not only a box office success but it also won over the critics.

Both Washington and Hawke were Oscar nominated for their performances; with Washington going on to win the Best Actor Oscar.

Training Day really did put the director on the map but he continued to work in different genres over the next couple of years as he directed Tears of the Sun and King Arthur.

He teamed up with Mark Wahlberg for Shooter before reuniting with Ethan Hawke for another gritty crime drama Brooklyn's Finest.

And Brooklyn's Finest was the last Fuqua movie that hit the big screen... but this week he is back.

And Olympus Has Fallen is a full out action movie for the director as the White House comes under a terrorist attack.

Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt have penned the script this time around while Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman and Angela Bassett are all set to star.

When the White House (Secret Service Code: "Olympus") is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building.

As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning's inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.

and we are going to be seeing plenty more of Fuqua as he is attached to Pablo Escobar and Hunter Killer and there are also rumours that he may helm The Equalizer; a big screen adaptation of the classic TV show.
