Anne Fontaine

Anne Fontaine

Anne Fontaine is back in the director's chair with her brand new film Adore: a movie that is featuring at the BFI London Film Festival as part of the Love programme.

Adore is based on the novella by Doris Lessing called The Grandmothers, and sees Naomi Watts join forces with Robin Wright.

Fontaine kicked off her career in front of the camera and appeared in movies such as Tendres Cousines and En votre aimable règlement throughout the eighties.

But it wasn't until the nineties that she made her feature film directorial debut with Les histories d'amour finissent mal... en général - Love Affairs Usually End Badly.

Throughout the rest of the nineties she worked on establishing herself as a writer and a director with the likes of Augustin, and Nettoyage a Sec: the latter saw her win a Best Screenplay award at the Venice Film Festival.

More recently we saw Fontaine director Coco avant Chanel: a movie that was based on the early life of fashion designer Coco Chanel.

Audrey Tautou took on the central role and the movie enjoyed critical success. It went on to pick up OScar, Bafta and Cesar Award nominations.

Now Fontaine is back with Adore and it is one of the most provocative films on show at the London Film Festival this year.

The movie follows two life long friends - Watts and Wright - who fall for each other's sons. Xavier Samuel, James Frencheville and Ben Mendelsohn make up a very interesting cast list of established stars and upcoming talent.

There is no rest for Fontaine as she is already filming her next movie project, Gemma Bovery.

Gemma Arterton takes on the title character and is joined on the cast list by Jason Flemyng and Elsa Zylberstein.

Fontaine is one of the female filmmakers making a splash at this year's festival, Adore is one of the movies that will be grabbing the attention of audiences this weekend.
