Ben Kingsley in Iron Man 3
The superhero/comic book movie has never been held in as high regard as it is at the moment as it is winning over audiences and making a mint at the box office.
Iron Man 3 is the latest movie to hit the big screen and it has already smashed through the $1 billion barrier - following in the footsteps of Avengers Assemble, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
A decade ago the idea of some of Hollywood’s biggest names - in some cases Oscar winners and Oscar nominees - getting involved with these types of movies was almost unheard of… but all that has changed.
With the likes of Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L. Jackson and Gwyneth Paltrow leading the way it seems that A-list actors are now flocking to this genre.
And that trend looks set to continue as there are some big names appearing in exciting superhero movies over the next couple of years.
Filming on The Amazing Spider 2 is currently underway and there are some super exciting actors who are on board the project.
Oscar winner Jamie Foxx is one of the big new additions as he is set to take on the role of Electro in what will be his first foray into the superhero blockbuster.
But the Oscar winner is not the only new addition to the cast list as Paul Giamatti and Chris Cooper will join the likes of Martin Sheen and Sally Field - who will be reprising the roles of Uncle Ben and Aunt May.
Captain America: The Winter Solider is also filming at the moment and the cast list of this movie is just getting better and better.
Chris Evans will be back as Steve Rogers while Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson will also return as Nick Fury and Black Widow.
But the big new addition comes in the form of acting legend Robert Redford, who will be taking on the role of Agent Alexander Pierce.
The actor admitted that he took on this role because he has never appeared in a movie such as this in his career - not to mention he let slip that he was going to be playing the villain in the film; exciting stuff indeed.
Another actor to watch out for in the second Captain America film is Anthony Mackie as he is set to team up with Evans and Johansson as The Falcon.
Another Marvel movie that will be heading to the big screen next year will be Guardians of the Galaxy and the big name to watch out for in that movie is Zoe Saldana.
Saldana is no stranger to the blockbuster having made her name in the likes of Avatar and Star Trek but this will be her first superhero movie. She is set to take on the role of Gamora in the film, which will be directed by James Gunn.
It’s already been an exciting year in terms of the superhero movie as the likes of Ben Kingsley and Guy Pearce joined Iron Man 3.
And that is set to continue this summer as Russell Crowe, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane are all aboard Man of Steel - this movie really does boast one of the best cast lists of the year.
The superhero genre is one that just keeps going from strength to strength and Avengers 2 is already one of the most highly anticipated films. We have heard that Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch will be two of the new characters and Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan is already being tipped to take on the latter.
The talk about a possible Justice League movie continues to rumble on - you have to think it will all hinge on how well Man of Steel performs this summer - and there is no doubt that a star studded cast will be brought together for the film should it go ahead.
Over the years we have seen the likes of Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Jeff Bridges, and Anthony Hopkins all star in the superhero film and long may it continue!!!
