Get Him To The Greek
Over the last fortnight we have look at some truly awful movies in out search for the Worst Film of 2010.
And the fight for that honour was a closely fought thing between the top two but Get Him to THe Greek has just missed out as it finished at number two.
With Jonah Hill, who is one of the most promising young comic actors currently doing the round in Hollywood, and Russell Brand on the cast list Get Him to The Greek promised to be one of the best comedies of 2010... sadly it has failed to live up to it's hype..
Aaron Green (Hill) gets things done. The ambitious 23-year-old has exaggerated his way into a dream job just in time for a career-making assignment.
His mission: Fly to London and escort a rock god to L.A.'s Greek Theatre for the first-stop on a $100-million tour. His warning: Turn your back on him at your own peril.
British rocker Aldous Snow (Brand) is both a brilliant musician and walking sex. Weary of yes men and piles of money, the former front man is searching for the meaning of life.
As the countdown to the concert begins, one intern must navigate a minefield of London drug smuggles, New York City brawls and Vegas lap dances to deliver his charge safe and, sort of, sound.
He may have to coax, lie to, enable and party with Aldous, but Aaron will get him to the Greek.
Sadly Get Him To The Greek just doesn't work, no matter how hard Brand tries to be funny, as it's just a mass of really gross scenes and scenarios that fail to raise a laugh.
That's the major problem with the this movie... it's quite simply not funny. Seeing Brand and Hill on the cast sheet then you would expect this movie to be laugh out loud funny and disappointingly it fails to raise even a chuckle.
There's no denying that Brand and Hill banter well together and really do make quite a good double act, and the over the top behaviour of Aldous Snow really is right up Brand's street, but it just fails to deliver the comedy goods.
There is just too much going on in this chaotic script Aaron must get Aldous to the Greek, Aaron is having relationship issues, Aldous wants to get back with ex-girlfriend, Aldous' son isn't really his son, Aldous wants to try and re-connect with his father - it's just too much!
Get Him To The Greek tries too much to be The Hangover, to which it pales in comparison, instead of trying to find an identity of it's own but it really is just stupid rather than funny.
Despite our high expectations Get Him To The Greek really does outstay it's welcome and is one of the most disappointing comedies of the year.
I advise that you avoid this one like the plague!
