The summer of blockbuster's may be over but this winter's movie line-up really is something to gets excited about.
And there really is something for everyone from teen vampire drama to sci-fi as well as a string of high quality Oscar contenders and Roland Emmerich is back with another end of the world movie.
So FemaleFirst took a look at some of the best so you can work out your winter movie schedule.
You may have noticed that Roland Emmerich is never happy unless he is bringing doom and gloom to the planet and the human race... and with 2012 I'm afraid that it's no difference.
Yes the end of the world is upon us again, following in the footsteps of Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow.
Starring John Cusack and Thandie Newton 2012 is an epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.
2012 is released 13th November
Of course the movie on everyone's lips at the moment is New Moon, the second in the Twilight Saga, which sees Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart reprise their roles as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan.
Following Bella's ill-fated 18th birthday party, Edward Cullen (Pattinson) and his family abandon the town of Forks, Washington, in an effort to protect her from the dangers inherent in their world.
As the heartbroken Bella sleepwalks through her senior year of high school, numb and alone, she discovers Edwards image comes to her whenever she puts herself in jeopardy. Her desire to be with him at any cost leads her to take greater and greater risks.
With the help of her childhood friend Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), Bella refurbishes an old motorbike to carry her on her adventures. Bella's frozen heart is gradually thawed by her budding relationship with Jacob, a member of the mysterious Quileute tribe, who has a supernatural secret of his own.
The cast list includes new additions such as Michael Sheen and Dakota Fanning as they take on the roles of Aro and Jane the Volturi vampires.
New Moon is released 20th November.
Another movie that is grabbing headlines and causing excitement is Avatar as James Cameron returns to the director's chair after a four year hiatus.
Avatar is set during the 22nd century on a small moon called Pandora, which orbits a gas giant, and is inhabited by the tribal Na'vi, ten foot blue humanoids that are peaceful unless attacked.
Humans cannot breathe Pandoran air, so they genetically engineer human/Na'vi hybrids known as Avatars that can be controlled via a mental link.
A paralysed Marine named Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) volunteers to exist as an Avatar on Pandora, falling in love with a Na'vi princess and becoming caught up in the conflict between her people and the human military that is consuming their world.
Already looking visually stunning Avatar will be released in 3D in some cinemas and looks set to be one of the biggest hits of the year.
Avatar is released 18th December
Ever since Robert Downey Jr returned to the big screen with Iron Man he has seen his career soar and if you can't wait until the sequel next summer then Christmas offers the perfect antidote.
Downey Jr will star in Guy Ritchie's adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes as the legendary sleuth with Jude Law as his right hand man Watson.
Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country.
Rachel McAdams stars as Irene Adler, the only woman ever to have bested Holmes and who has maintained a tempestuous relationship with the detective.
After the success of RocknRolla last year it looks like Ritchie really has returned to form and Sherlock Holmes with be the first hit of 2010.
Sherlock Holmes is released 26th December.
Away from the more blockbuster movies by Christmas the Oscar season is in full swing and there are a series of high quality movies that are coming our way.
The Academy always loves a biopic movie and this year will probably be no different with the release of Amelia.
The movie, which stars Hilary Swank, look at the life of legendary American pilot Amelia Earhart, who disappeared while flying over the Pacific Ocean in 1937 in an attempt to make a flight around the world.
Directed by Mira Nair this film could land Swank her third Best Actress Oscar and is released 13th November.
Also on the hunt for a third Oscar is brit actor Daniel Day Lewis with his new movie Nine. He stars as film director Guido Contini struggles to find harmony in his professional and personal lives.
