It would seem that Hollywood is the place for actresses at the moment with some great performances having been produced in the last year for a certain group of stars.

From blockbusters to Academy Award nominated turns the age of the actress is here and FemaleFirst takes a look at those who have made a real impact and what lies ahead for them.

At thirty four Amy Adams is the oldest and leader of this new crop of stars, as well as being the most established.

Despite roles in Catch me If You Can and The Wedding Date it was independent movie Junebug in 2005 that brought her attention and critical acclaim.

A Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nomination followed and Adams' career was off and running. She followed this up with more mainstream roles in Detective Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Underdog.

Her 2007 role in Enchanted once again brought her to the attention of the cinema going public. Taking on the role of Giselle Enchanted was part animation part real action and was a massive box hit grossing more $340 million at the global box office.

She teamed up with Tom Hanks. Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman for Charlie Wilson's War before landing a second Oscar nomination for her role in Doubt with Meryl Streep and Hoffman.

Up next for the actress is the Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian as Amelia Earhart and Nora Ephron's Julia & Julia.

From oldest to youngest now and Megan Fox has been making waves for the last couple of years after making her name in Hope & Faith.

Despite appearing in Confessions of A Teenage Drama Queen it was her role in Michael Bay's 2007 blockbuster Transformers that really shot her to stardom.

Between then and now she has chosen her parts sparingly going on to star in How to Lose Friends and Alienate People with Simon Pegg and Kirsten Dunst and Jennifer's Body, which is released later this year.

This summer sees her return to the character of Mikaela Banes in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with Shia LaBeouf, which looks set to be another big hit for the twenty two year old.

She is currently filming Jonah Hex and Passion Plays, The Crossing and Fathom are all in the pipeline.

And it's not just American actresses that are having all the success oh no as Emily Blunt flies the flag for British talent in the States.

She broke through in 2006 when she took on the role of Emily Charlton in The Devil Wears Prada alongside Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, and since then her career has soared.

She went on to appear in The Jane Austen Book Club, Dan in Real Life and Charlie Wilson's War as well as winning a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Gideon's Daughter.

But it's 2009 that is the busiest for the twenty six year old with six movies due for release. The Young Victoria, which saw her take on the role of Queen Victoria was a great box office success.

Later this year The Wolf Man, a remake of the 1941 classic, is to be released which also stars Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins. The Great Buck Howard and Wild Target are also due for release.

She is currently working on Gulliver's Travels with Jack Black in which she takes on the role of Princess Glory, the film is expected to be released in 2010.

Rachel McAdams' performance alongside Ryan Gosling in The Notebook melted thousands of hearts in 2004 a role, along with Mean Girls, that marked her arrival.

Since then she has enjoyed a string of successful roles including The Wedding Crashers, Red Eye and The Family Stone.

But it's State of Play that once again shows off her talents as she mixes with Russell Crowe and Helen Mirren in the big screen adaptation of the hit BBC drama.

Things are also looking bright for her too with roles in The Time Traveler's Wife and Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law.

Other actresses to keep an eye on include Isla Fisher, Sally Hawkins, Hayley Atwell, Kristen Stewart and Ellen Page.
