Ok so female filmmakers have definitely been on the agenda this week as the Oscar nominations creep up, Kathryn Bigelow could become just the fourth woman to be nominated for Best Director.

And while we took a look at some of the filmmakers who are well established in the industry FemaleFirst has dug up some directors that we should all be keeping an eye on.

Kathryn Bigelow: while she may have a career that kicked off in the eighties it's The Hurt Locker that has shot her to prominence.

And while she isn't exactly up and coming she it will be interesting to see what she goes on to do next.

Her next project will see her re-team with writer Mark Boal for Triple Frontier and is rumoured to be set in the border zone between Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil.

- Sam Taylor Wood: the British filmmaker made her directorial debut at the end of 2009 with the release of Nowhere Boy.

Starring Aaron Johnson the movie followed the early years of John Lennon as the two sisters who fight for his affection: Mimi, the formidable aunt who raised him from the age of 5 and Julia, the spirited mother who gave him up to Mimis care.

The movie was met well by the critics and has bagged a string of Bafta nominations, including Best British Picture.

- Jordan Scott: it's no surprise to see Jordan Scott moving into a filmmaking career after the success of her father Ridley.

But Scott is carving a career of her own as she made her feature film debut in 2009 with Cracks, starring Eva Green.

Within the confines of a strict, all-girls English boarding school (circa 1930s), a clique students participate on the swim team not only to pass the time, but to be close to their swimming instructor, the enigmatic, yet charismatic, Miss G.

While Miss G originally encourages their idolization and crack (crush) on her, the teachers attention is quickly focused on the arrival of an exotic and beautiful Spanish foreign pupil, Fiamma.

The movie was screened at the London Film Festival back in October as Scott proved that she can follow in her father's footsteps by producing high quality movies.

- Mia Hansen-Love: she is another filmmaker to keep an eye over the next couple of years, as well as being a script writer.

She kicked off her filmmaker career in 2004 but it was her 2009 movie The Father of My Children that has caught everyone's attention.

The movie follows successful producer Gregoire Canvel who has his dream job and wonderful family but he struggles with suicidal tendancies.

The Father of My Children won Hansen-Love the Special Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.

- Floria Sigismondi: has made her name directing music videos, working with the likes of   Marilyn Manson, David Bowie, Björk, The Cure, Christina Aguilera.

She will made her feature film debut later this year with a biopic picture called The Runaways, a film she has also penned.

The movie follows the rise of seventies girl band The Runaways starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning.

While it may be the  men who dominate Hollywood at the moment there is some great female directing talent that are coming through the ranks.
