Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Cast: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson
Dir: Michael Bay
Rating: 4.5/5

After the success of Transformers back in 2007, grossing over $700 million at the global box office and being one of the biggest movies of the year it was never in doubt that a sequel would follow.

The battle for Earth has ended but the battle for the universe has just begun. After returning to Cybertron, Starscream assumes command of the Decepticons, and has decided to return to Earth with force.

The Autobots believing that peace was possible finds out that Megatron's dead body has been stolen from the US Military by Skorpinox and revives him using his own spark.

Now Megatron is back seeking revenge and with Starscream and more Decepticon reinforcements on the way but the Autobots will have the Fallen to deal with who is hell bent on revenge and destroying the earth.

Michael Bay is well known for his big budget spectacles, huge explosions and special effects and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen really doesn't disappoint as it hits the ground running.

It's bigger, there are more robots and more action ticking every box that you expect from a summer blockbuster, and anyone who takes it more seriously than that really needs to take a chill pill.

The special effects are nothing short of incredible as Optimus Prime and co do battle with the Decepticons, the battles between the two side, which are littered throughout the film, really are the highlights of the movie.

It's good to see Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox back as Sam and Mikaela who are going through some relationship issues as Sam goes off to college. Cue the appearance of Ramon Rodriguez as Sam's flatmate who runs his own website of conspiracy theories.

Along with the return of John Turturro as Simmons and Kevin Dunn and Julie White as Sam's parents there is a huge injection of humour that really goes hand in hand well with the high octane action.

However Revenge of the Fallen is a hefty two and a half hours which really is way too long and this leads to an uneven pace as the story is stretched to breaking point, becoming slightly lacking in places.

Also there are too many story lines going on that sometimes the movie felt a little cluttered. Despite this Transformers stands alongside Star Trek as one of the best blockbuster movies so far this summer and is not to missed.

So just kick back switch off and enjoy a bit of mindless movie entertainment. Roll on movie three!
