When the Bourne Identity was released in 2002 it was labelled the America's answer to James Bond but over the three instalments Bourne has become a successful franchise in its own right.Based on the novels be Robert Ludlum the movies follow Jason Bourne who is found floating in the Mediterranean Sean, off Marseille, with two gun shot wounds to his back .When Bourne wakes he is suffering from amnesia and has no idea how he came to be on the ocean. He attempts to discover his true identity and how the Central Intelligence System (CIA) is involved. As the films progress, Bourne Supremacy and the Bourne Ultimatum, he discovers that he enrolled into Treadstone's conditioning programme and left behind his identity of Captain David Webb to become a government assassin. But Bourne's 'programming' has gone awry and he failed to complete an assassination. And by the time we get to the Bourne Ultimatum a high-ranking CIA official Noah Vosen has made it his personal vendetta to bring the former assassin down to protect the covert government programme.

Ultimatum was one of the best action movies of 2007 as Bourne is more determined to discover the truth and bring down an entire covert government agency single handed as the U.S. government try to destroy the 30-million-dollar project gone wrong that is Jason Bourne.

Despite being a lesser known actor when Bourne Identity was released, due to this role Damon has been propelled onto the Hollywood A-List.

He has produced the best action hero of recent times with a character rooted in reality with a simple plot of Bourne facing a personal crisis.

With Paul Greengrass at the helm for Supremacy and Ultimatum they are fast past thriller that allows the character of Bourne to do what he knows best to pit his razor sharp wit, lightening reflexes and fearlessness against those who want him dead.

However along with all these factor expected in an action movie Ultimatum in particular poses some difficult questions of our main character is Bourne a killer, or was he merely doing what he was told, built into a brutal killing machine by the government that is trying to kill him? Did he enter into the programme with a full knowledge of what he would become or was he manipulated?

At the box office Bourne was a major hit with the trilogy raking in just under $1 billion worldwide, with the Bourne Ultimatum grossing just over $440 million alone.
