Some are cute, some are pure evil but these are the top six that we think make the films come alive, and keep us at the edge of our seats.
Number 1- Alien
The film that scared half the world to death and made Sigourney Weaver the female action star.
Directed by Ridley Scottt and brought to life from the twisted mind of designed H.R Giger, The Alien was a big freak show.
With it’s long snake head, human body and limbs it’s hard to say where inspiration came for the character.
Scott took inspiration from the artwork of designer H. R. Giger who both felt that his painting Necronom IV was the type of representation they wanted.
The Alien attacks its prey by latching onto a human face, like a face hugger and from there it plants an egg inside the human body.
It then uses the human as a host and grows inside. When it gets stronger and big enough it rips through your rip cadge and burst into life. This stage is called the chest buster.
From there on The Alien kills its prey by just ripping them apart, if anyone was to come into contact with them you need heavy machinery.
Alien is overall a great picture that has many scares along, The Alien has to be our number one scariest creature, due to the brilliant nature of the film and the fact The Alien is the all time scariest monster.
Number 2- Avatar
This is the 3D film that will transform cinema forever, costing a cool £300 million Avatar is set to be ground breaking.
Directed by James Cameron the films main stars are the 10ft tall elegant blue creatures that call themselves The Na’vi.
They live in wanted marshland on the plant of Pandorna, and remain peaceful unless attacked.
With the humans not being able to breath the Pandoran air, they genetically engineer human/Na'vi hybrids known as Avatars that can be controlled via a mental link.
The blue creatures are brought to life using CGI animated and take on all the actors mannerisms and traits.
These creatures many not be specially scary and disgusting to look at but they are strangely beautiful and unique and have human like characteristics.
Unlike any creature seen before in films, we will certainly have to get used to them as there are rumours that two more films will follow if they get the green light.
Number 3- Gremlins
Released in 1984 these little pet creatures start off as a cute lovable cuddly and highly intelligent mogwai (Gizmo).
They were brought to the small town of Kingston Falls by Randall Peltzer who purchased it at china town as a rushed Christmas present for his son Billy.
There are three simple rules to owning a mogwai and if you break two of three simple rules: No water, no food after midnight and no bright light then trouble arises.
Gizmo gets wet and spawns other creatures who become a highly dangerous and destructive and evil monster, the Gremlin .
The creatures are not very pretty to look at have big ear, reptilian skin and red eyes.
A gremlin can be killed in any way but the most haunting scene has to be when the Gremlins are exposed to water and the skin bubbles and boils melting away.
Whichever way they are killed they certainly made an impression causing destruction along the way.
Number 4 - E.T
E.T maybe a family film but he is no oil painting to look, and has to be feature in this top five, just for his skin appearance alone.
With his big eyes, head and wrinkly skin E.T would scare anyone away but it’s his loveable charm and friendly manners that wins over Elliot’s heart.
E.T is certainly not the most ugly Extra Terrestrial to star in a film hence Alien at number one, but he certainly was ugly enough to scare a young Drew Barrymore.
Number 5 -Jar Jar Binks
Jar Jar Binks sprung to our cinema screens in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.
He is created through computer generated graphics and is a Gungan from the planet Naboo.
He came under heavy criticism from the hardcore fans who thought he had only been included into the film for the children, which they may have a point.
His big eyes, duck like mouth and red skin he defiantly stands out as on of the most weird creatures to hit the big screen.
Number 6- Where The Wild Things Are
Ok these monsters are not specifically scary but they are a little strange to look at .
Taking from the children’s book written by American Author Maurice Sendak
they befriend a young boy named Alex who convinces them he is a king.
Normally dangerous to humans the monster are 6-8 foot tall and are brought to life by padded costumes.
To make the facial effects seem real GGI effects were added to get across facial expressions and features.
The monsters bring something different to the cinema and with there excess fur they are a completely unique species paving the way for more usual monster to come.
